How 'essential' is a true bypass loop?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so I'm nearly done with my pedalboard! I wanted to add a true bypass loop and tuner mute, but the more I think about it, it seems I may not REALLY need one. So far I'm running...

TU-2 > Sovtek Muff > Bassballs > Tonefactor 442 Filter.

I know the 442 is the only true bypass pedal there, but would the benefits of a loop and tuner mute be very big?

Comments and suggestions welcome!

Do you have a noticeable change in tone/volume when running through all the pedals turned off? If yes, get one. If not, or it doesn't matter to you, then don't. I'm in the latter group (high end roll off + don't care).

I'm in the I don't really care group, but I did order a loop-master A/B true-bypass looper with tuner mute. I just wanted to have the ability to just remove the effects in case there was an "issue" and something started to go awry during a set and I didn't want to deal with it.

Here's a great resource that addresses true-bypass issues as well as a lot of other pertinent topics. Written well without being too technical!

well you have very few pedals, and I don't have much experience with those. if you feel the tone suck, then get one. I think one of the most essential thing to isolate is the tuner, so get a tuner out at least.
