How to get this effect...

...sorry about this; its Kelly Rowland's Work (freemason mix). Any idea how to achieve the bass distortion effect? I know its a syth but there must be a pedal or combo of pedals to simulate it well.

Thanks much.

Sounds like blended fuzz at the beginning. I don't know which fuzz would sound closest. I'm not a fuzz aficionado.

Yeah, I think you want to blend with a fuzz. The fuzz should be really square-wavey, and really thin and have no low-end.

It kind of reminds me of the fuzz in the Morley Power-Wah Fuzz. That's probably not helpful, though. Not a muff fuzz, though. The muff is too smooth.

It sounds to me like a MXR Bass Blowtorch to me. Kinda buzzy...check one out.

Doesn't sound like a synth to me. It's a fairly unremarkable sound though, obviously added in post because the effect isn't present on every note - and somehow I doubt the bassist was turning the effect on and off every bar!

There's probably dozens of pedals that could pull this off. Just look at some fuzzes.

+1

i noticed the same thing. i'd just look for a clean blend (aka barge concepts) and a saw type fuzz (search, there are too many to list)
