How to get that SVT Tube sound!

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an ampeg svt 450h. It sounds fairly tubish compared to other ss amps. What I am really looking for is that all tube sound from a pedal. I have seen some people here getting that sound through a tube DI, also a tube overdrive pedal. Could someone recommend something to me to get the smooth tube grind? The other thing I was thinking of just pairing that amp with an svp pro tube pre amp, but I am looking for something a little cheaper and in a pedal.

Interestingly, Tech21, makers of the aforementioned Sansamp, are making an Ampeg sim pedal. They demoed it a NAMM this year.

My GNX3000 has several SVT emulations on it. I love the punch and growl! It also emulates about a dozen different amps, and a similar number of different speaker cabs, and mix-and-matchable.

I don't own one, but maybe EBS Valvedrive.

Yeah, I've got one of these, it's a great pedal, exactly what you want.

These look very promising but I'm a little concerned about speaker emulation. Their website claim it simulates the sound of an 8x10 cab but why isn't there a switch for this feature? I don't think I want speaker simulation if I'm playing through a real amp as well. I believe this kind of thing can get muddled if the simulation and the real speakers have fairly different sounds.

I use a SVPCL into my 350h and it's not bad.

get an SVT. I'm not even being a smartass, the real thing is always better than some pedal, and the sound of the output section is a big part of it. You'll not get that from a preamp.

I played the Tech 21 VT-Bass (I think that's the name) SVT emulator pedal at NAMM this year and it did a fantastic job of getting that raging SVT sound. Now, keep in mind that NAMM is not exactly the ideal listening environment (very noisy), but I can say that with my head directly in front of the amp and playing a Jazz bass at moderate volume, it sounded great. I am looking forward to hearing one in a more controlled environment whenever it's released!

im not just looking for the SVT its the Tube SVT sound, something more like what the SVT II pro sounds like. more growl tubish sound. The ebs valve drive seems to be a popular option, I haven't tried it. There seems to be other pedals that have tubes in them, will anything with some tubes get me closer to the sound I want. Maybe like a english muffin or something else.

Solidstate ampegs are nothing like the tube ones, even if they have a tube section in the preamp.

SVT stands for Super Valve Technology... so calling a solidstate amp an SVT is pretty disingenuous.

Get thee to a sansamp.

I'm about to get my dose of tubage from a DHA VT2 (Tuesday I hope!), I suggest you take a look at the DHA pedals as well as the EBS Multidrive and English Muff'n. Clips in the Wiki and davehallamps.co.uk!
