how many dirt do you have on your pedalboard?(fuzz, distortion, overdrives) and how do you place them on the chain for better response?

I have three fuzz pedals. I just moved them around until I liked the sounds they made together.

Swollen Pickle -> VT Bass -> Big Muff Pi. I usually avoid stacking the Pickle with anything but the VT before the Muff is amazing.

3 Fuzzes and 1 overdrive / distortion/ I'm still experimenting, but am currently running oxide > elements (set to low gain) > Magnetar > TFR (just got it and have yet to see where it really fits within the group)

I almost always have at least two - an overdrive and a fuzz.

These days I have either two or three depending on how you'd classify a Prunes & Custard. My other two are a Pork Loin and a Brown Dog.

My standard placement is to cascade them in order of increasing clipping. So overdrive first, then distortion, then fuzz. IME this arrangement tends to work best when layering more than one dirt pedal.

For DI/amp emulation pedals (Rusty Box, BDDI, VT Bass Deluxe, Microtubes B7K) I almost always run them at the end of my chain. In fact, while I haven't had one in a few years, the SansAmp BDDI with another overdrive/distortion/fuzz in front of it gave me some of my absolute favorite dirty tones.

But of course there are exceptions and the only "right" order is the one that sounds best to you.

Just a singular Source Audio Multiwave Distortion Pro. It does the job extremely well, and it also acts as a great synth pedal.

Swollen pickle and then a soundblox pro bass distortion. Blending them both together can actually get some pretty interesting tones since the soundblox can get pretty synthy.

I have 3.

Old pre Mosfet Fulltone Bassdrive.
VT Bass, always with some dirt.
Fuzzrocious grey stache.

I would have about 5 or 6 more if I had the funds.

The Swell is first, with the fuzzes in a loop with Octave/Fuzz/Filter/Wah/Chorus

Right now? 3.

Blackout Musket
B3K
ParaDriver

I might move the B3K and ParaDriver to different boards though. They both basically do the same thing for me.

I have 4 that I also cascade.. I found I like the sound of the DD into the B3K alot more than the B3K into the DD.. Have my Elements set to high gain for that tear your face of distortion and then comes the awesome fuzz with the TAFM w/gate..
Good times!

I bet that Mesa V1 is a killer OD. I use to have a Bottle Rocket and it was pretty tasty.

i run three, boost into preamp/distortion into fuzz:

gives a nice range of sounds, as the W&C into the BB is a great combo, as is the BB into the TFR

i bought it for guitar many years ago & thought it sounded like mud. so i threw it in a bin & pretty much forgot about it til a few months ago when someone here mentioned they liked the way it sounded on bass. i gave it a test spin & have been using it ever since. it's beastly.
