In order:

Boss OC-2: I count this as I did the synth mod to it which makes it a very lo-fi square-wave octave fuzz.

Madbean Lowrider "Pearl OC-7 Octave: I count this one as well because the upper 8va is all analog and is dirt by nature.

Wooly Mammoth Clone: buffer friendly and I use it to gate my signal to gate any other dirt downstream.

Fuzzrocious Terrordactyl: this fuzz/filter combo can get very nasally/synthy/nasty, and can also be a sizzly fuzz.

Way Huge Swollen Pickle: awesome Russian muff clone with lots of tonal options and HUGE amount of range.

Guttermouth Modded Russian Big Muff: modded for true bypass, bigger caps, feedback switch, bias and with a gate.

WMD Geiger Counter with bass mod: use this to sample reduce everything mentioned to get any lo-fi fuzz sound I could ever want.

Tech 21 Red Ripper: this is post EHX HOG, Ibanez SF-10 Swell Flanger and Boss PH-2 Super Phaser for synthy fuzz tones and I also use its powerful 3-band EQ as a pre-amp.

So my total number is lucky #8!

I have an ODB-3 and Empress Multidrive as dedicated pedals (out of town---still haven't played with the Multidrive!).

GT-10B obviously provides lots of different dirt sounds, of varying quality.

Pitchfactor has the octave fuzz and the Pitchfactor and Super Synth provide synth-y fuzz too.

I'm still working on the best order for all of this.

Fuzzrocious Rat Tail - Distortion
Rusty Box - OD/Tone Shaper
McNeece Mayhem - Fuzz

Photo chain is slightly out of date. Rat into the Rusty and then in and thru the blender/loop where the Mayhem lives.

McNeece Mayhem is in the modulation loop because it has a massive Bass/Treble Boost and Mid-Scoop but likes to pushed hard by the OD/distortion. Plus, it's an oscillating, pitch raping, octave like effect that I generally use to make music hurt... so in the loop it goes.

How would you compre the Rusty box to the VT as far as a tone shaping preamp.

I generally have 4 plus a boost.

Holy Fire as an overdrive
Hematoma as distortion and extra boost
Dirty Rooster and Sovtek Bubble Font as fuzz
or
Dirty Rooster and Grey Stache
HBE Bajo Mos at the end used as a clean boost

First, I've never used either of these as a true pre-amp. Both have been fed into my amps regular input... so....

VT makes everything sound like an SVT... and I love the sound of an SVT. However, VT doesn't sound good to me if its set to distort and THEN you stack distortions or for that matter ANY modulations before it.... And did I mention, that it makes EVERYTHING sound like an SVT.

The rusty has an authoritative attack, tight lows and the mids .. sweet mercy the mids! No matter where I set them I don't get 'honky'. And, when I cut the Rusty off, it doesn't sound like I've changed amps all of a sudden. More like a second channel or different EQ as my amp sounds rounder and looser in the lows with a little less attack sans Rusty. One complaint, I wish the boost had a volume control!

Sorry.. I could go on and on.......

Currently; Bass -> tuner -> Darkglass B3K -> Way Huge Swollen Pickle mkII -> Boss RE-20 delay -> amp

Usually the B3K gives me a light drive/boost, the Pickle gives the almighty fuzz. They work nicely both alone and blended with each other. I also have a Boss ODB-3, EHX Bass Big Muff and a Boss OC-3 in the reserve, but the B3K and Pickle give me all I need.

Wolly mammoth clone (home made)

Bazz Fuzz (Home made)

Behringer BOD100 (Tried the boss ODB-3 and it's too fizzy, trying to change this cheapo pedal for something better, but hjavent actually found anything closer to this pedal with that kind of gnarlines and amount of gain available)

No picks yet of my larger board but... EBS valvedrive is my always on pedal to fatten my signal to send to my DI and before my amp but it is an overdrive. Green Rhino and 30th anniversary tubescreamer depending on my mood I use one for distortion or fuzz and the other for overdrive slight grit. The EHX bassballs has built in distortion thats activated with a switch but I hardly ever use it with distortion engaged. So that makes 3 and a half.

I use this board for led zeppelin and black sabbath tribute bands.

I have a bass muff that used to be on this board but its loaned to a friend now and is going to my nano board later.

Just 2 for me - Darkglass B3K and Fulltone OCD (version 3). I can't seem to connect w fuzz pedals. Others sound great w them, but for some reason I just don't find any joy when I use them.

MXR Line Boost --> Bass Big Muff --> Aguilar Tone Hammer Preamp/DI

The boost brings my big muff to life, and TH with low AGS Gain adds the extra hair.

Still haven't found what i'm looking, TH beign last in the chain... thinking of swapping the muff for something else.

My MXR Phase 90 just after the Muff gives me a damn good psych creamy sound tho...

Frequency Central Demon Cleaner; 2 channels of tube overdrive.

TC Electronic Mojo Mojo; A very under rated overdrive that does a great job on bass IMO

A 3 in 1 fuzz from Makes sounds loudly; Can be run in series, Blackout Musket clone > Zvex fuzz factory clone > Mid-fi Clari(not) clone.

Infanem second voice.

Boss GT-10b; 12 different OD distortion fuzz models. a few of which I use to varying degrees on diffent patches.

Oh, and I just HAVE to include the EH Bassballs since most of my uses for it include leaving the distortion switch engaged.

So... How many is that? 1, 2, 3... pfffftttt... Far far too many.

Currently 5:

Malekko B:Assmaster
Prescription Electronics Depth Charge
EHX Deluxe Bass Big Muff
Tech21 VT Bass
Tech21 GT-2

Now that I'm pretty much exclusively running hollowbody, I think the GT-2 will be off of this current incarnation, but will remain in the stable. Now that I'm using hollows full time, I really wish I had a Fulltone Bass-Drive back in the stable...those are AWESOME for this use!

At the moment I'm using a Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic for two different channels of OD along with a GGG-tuned muff for fuzz. If I have something really wild going on, I'll tack one of my DIY devi ever twins (dying ataris) or my GGG-brassmaster clone on to the end of the chain. I use those rarely enough though that I don't bother saving a "correct" place in the board for them.

I run the Rusty Box pretty clean but it's proobably considered and OD
The Frantabit can get dirty too
