i know of the brown dog, nocto loco, zvex fuzz factory and wm. What else is there?
also does anyone use a noise gate in place of a gated fuzz for anything?

I don't know much about "gated", but as user experience: it is great for fast metal riffs.
It doesn't muddy up the tone then when the gate is turned off.
Also, I am getting kinda a brass like response. |

The Pollyanna is a gated fuzz/octave reminiscent of the Nocto Loco in that sense, and has a knob that controls the gate of the suboctaves and gain of the +oct. |

i would say the nocto is more like a gated octave-down fuzz. |
