Depends how big the pedal board is.

Now to answer the next question, "How big should a pedal board be?", that's easy: How big do they make them?

Duh... everyone knows the answer is 42.

Now, everybody stop the "harmony central" style posts already!!!! It's dragging the tone of the forum down! Seriously!

Sick of polls, sick of "how do I sound like flea" posts, sick of "I'm too lazy to download the user manual and find out how my equipment works" posts and I'm sick of "I'm too thick-skulled to use the search function" posts.

Inform yourself, create your own ideas and opinions, and stop annoying grumpy old men on internet forums!!!!

The one I'm building for myself is 48" by 19", and will hold and power 35 pedals, plus power my amp.

If I add another 12" X 19" section to it, I'm pretty sure I could get exactly 42 on there, but it won't be able to power my amp anymore.

Earlier in the year I read almost every post in the effects forum, and in just about every other subforum on TB. Sad to say that in the past couple of months there are many threads that aren't even worth opening more than once, if even once.

Hey, here's another new joke for ya;

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?

A: To get to the other side!

I hear that! I was away from the forums for like, 5 days, which is unusual for me, and in 8 pages of unread posts in the effects forum alone I replied to 1 and read maybe 5.

Today, like just 15 minutes ago, I officially got sick of it.

I used to think the internet was a great learning tool, but now I realise that it just teaches people to completely forget HOW to learn.

A: As many as it takes to support the song and deliver "your sound". The fewer the better.

Wow, this thread has everything. There's the pointless question in the OP

If I thought this was a legit question it wouldn't bother me as much, but considering your oh so funny chorus thread I wonder if you really have an interest in effects or were just looking for some OT type entertainment here.

Then you've got everybody's favorite blanket statement:

I still wonder why so many people drop into the effects forum just to say they don't use effects. It's no different than dropping into an ERB thread to say that no one needs more than 4 strings or posting in a slap or tapping thread that you think those techniques are worthless.

Followed by the unqualified statement:

I don't know what "your sound" even means. Other than a preamp, compressor or possibly a chorus (paging Jeff Berlin and Duff McKagen) how many people have a pedal that they leave on all the time? And why "the fewer the better?" I just recorded a track that features a section with five pedals on (octaver, distortion, phaser, PS-3 - mode 7, and tremolo) and it was exactly what I wanted. For some people (myself included) playing with effects is part of the songwriting process.

Tomorrow I'm playing my normal Monday gig (backing a singer/songwriter/pianist) and with her I don't bring a single effect. So it's all about context.

And finally, you have the appropriate cranky outburst:

Making either bongo or nifty cranky isn't all that out of the ordinary. But seeing both of them ranting more than usual is a good indication that things have gone awry. Effects is my favorite forum but I too am frustrated by a lot of what I've seen of late.

You're right. Apparently, I can't add even when it's my own build. I was thinking "19 inches + 19 inches = 38 inches, 38 inches plus 12 inches = 48 inches"

Get some effects. Once you do, you will never turn back.
