How much of a distorted bass player are you.

I find distortion effect a major part of my bass sound, by no means I consider myself a wanna be guitar player, just love the dynamics between tones etc. specially for bass instrumental compositions. how much of this distorted behavior influence your bass playing.

not sure what you were asking there, but I definitely like to use some distortion during the "heavier" parts of a song. I like

NOISE ROCK!!! One of my guilty pleasures, freely admitted!

Here is my recipe: a DOD classic fuzz OR an Ibanez tube screamer and a mu-tron phasor and a EH chorus to make a huge thick signal and drive an older transistor amp like a Lab L11 or a Peavey 400BH. Just hit a chord ala Lemmy or Kim Gordon, lean on into the cabinet and hold it for an unbelievable endless singing feedback!!!

Sunn Model T amps, fog machines and dark robes, while holy indeed, is NOT the only path to divinity!

I've got a couple of flavors of dirt at the ready, but play clean 75% of the time, at least.

I like using distortion on bass. it definitely makes ordinary bass tones sounds extrodinary. it's bands like orgy, motorhead and type o negative that inspires me to use distortion on bass. I like to combine distortion with chorus. it gives me a grungy but heavy sound. I'm definitely the type of bass player who likes to use effects.

I use it sparingly. WIth Bowzer, I use it on one song and a couple endings. With my regular band, I might use it for about 5% of what we do.

I have one on my pedal board and only use it once or twice a night. I think I used it for some Grand Funk last gig. Like any effect, do it too much and it loses it's uniqueness IMHO.

love it, as per application. if it doesnt fit, dont hit the switch. a good bit of fuzz and grit does help to fill out in a trio though

I hardly ever use it.
Though when I first started playing bass I thought I was so innovative for adding distortion to my bass.
It's so funny to look back and laugh at stuff like that.

I don't like clean tones. I like to push gain a lot so even the cleanest I use will have a little tube crunch in it. Gotta love Ampeg.
I am guilty of insane fuzzing and beefy overdriving too.

I keep a light blended fuzz on at almost all times in my band.
Then, when I want to get different flavors of heavy, I throw either a distortion or high gain fuzz over that.

light fuzz = BBM
distortion = Blues Driver
high gain fuzz = Musket v2

if I remember right the story told by the guys from metallica, one of the things that called their attention when they first heard cliff burton play was that unique distorted sound rarely showcased by a bassist. another great cd where you can hear a beautiful bass distortion tone is michael manring thonk, and I am sure the list goes on.

Not at all. Never heard a distorted bass sound that provides enough punch.
