How powerful of the EQ section of Tone Hammer?

I returned an Xotic Tri-logic preamp because its EQ section was too gentle for me. That is, it didn't shape the tone of my passive basses in a highly noticeable way. So, I'm considering TH. How powerful is its EQ? As a site note, can it produce mild OD if I turn the gain knob to the max? I'm not interested in its AGS section.

I like the EQ section of the TH. When you boost some lows you don't get muddiness at all, the semi-parametric mids control is very useful, too. But I don't know what's your goal. As for mild OD and AGS: I use (not often, in fact) AGS to archieve a mild OD sound. Even if you crank the gain in the AGS mode, you will not get a real dist sound with this thing. And I could't overdrive the preamp cranking the gain in "clean" mode.

I would describe the EQ on the Tone Hammer as "sensible". The great thing about the TH though is the sweepable mids (as mentioned above), which IMO make the biggest changes to your tone. I love it personally. As mentioned above, you will not be able to produce a mild OD without the AGS activated. I play mine with the AGS on and gain at about 10 o'clock. It gives a nice bite to my '62 Jazz.

Is there a reason you're opposed to the AGS?
