How practial is Korg G5 our days?

I was thinking to buy synth pedal, I had Deep Impact before and sold it as it sounded not musical to me, recently saw some Korg G5 video and was impressed. I'm wondering if it is good for live gigs and is easy to use. I'm also interested what would be a fair price for it this days.

I believe this was reviewed in the synth review megathread.

Price? There is one for sale in the classifieds. I paid about $300 a year ago. Others have sold recently on Ebay as high as $500. It's a great synth pedal, but that is a lot of money (at least for me).

By the way, I've had the BMS, the Deep Impact, and the G5. They all do certain things well. The DI and G5 have presets, which make them better for live gigs if you want predictable results. I think I prefer the G5, but the next time I find a Deep Impact for under $400 (it could happen), I'm going to buy one agin. Markjazzbassist has my old Deep Impact.[/

the G5 is a great pedal for live. The presets and sound make it very useable. Squarewave nailed it pretty much in his post.

THe BMS is great too, but for live tweaking it can be tough.

I just picked up a G5 for $300 on ebay. So far I really like it.

Congrats. The G5 is pretty cool. I'm especially fond of the starchy sawtooth sounds. I'm also looking forward to checking out the Chunk Systems synth under development.

Steal on a Korg G5

I just purchased a G5 plus power supply for $200 from a guy on craigslist in San Diego. Think I got it for a fair price?

Heck yeah. So, where do you live in SF?

Anyhow... I think the reviews Mark and I did single-handedly ruined the market for cash-strapped bassists seeking the G5; now they're a pain to find AND afford. We should've written harsher reviews.

If I could get $500 for my G5 I'd sell it in a heartbeat.

But if it's only gonna fetch $300 or so I have no interest in selling it. It is just way too cool a stompbox to part with cavalierly.

true... with the experience i now have, I'd rather buy a small keyboard synth than a pedal synth for bass guitar (for synth sounds that is)

though, the Korg is very nice, it can be fuzzy, synthy or just funky - it covers my needs for an envelope filter as well (it has a blend and it is programmable... what more do you want?). it's quite a multi actually, it's the only effect I have on my pedalboard now (got rid of the OD, fuzz, chorus, delay...) and I really don't miss any of those!

Hey MysticBoo,
Yes... he's shipping it to me today ($212 w/shipping). Fingers crossed that it's as good shape as he claims. I've recently discovered the joy of googling craigslist as a site -- i.e. ["korg G5" site:craigslist.org ].

I'm right by Arguello and Fulton in SF (near USF). Are you in the Bay Area?

Haven't you ever seen the giant cloud of marijuana smoke and the white clock tower that towers over everything else north of Oakland?

I'm right there. And so is UC Berkeley.

Now I just need to Google your location and get my robbery gear...

I believe that cloud extends over my fair city as well. I checked out Letters to Ruin on the 'Space. Cool stuff. If you're bored Saturday night, you could come see my band over in the city. We're a pretty far cry from prog/metal, though.
