As I was going through the "post your pedalboard" thread I realized that some of you know about some "weird" pedals. So as the title says, how do you guys find out about these smaller pedal makers?
Is it just going through the effects forum or are some of you industrial spies for Burger King or something? |

Others of us are friends with, or in some way personally familiar with, certain pedal builders or distributors. And sometimes the pedal builders themselves come around here (or other forums like TGP) and make their presence known. |

Start paying attention to threads on pedals in the vein you dig. and search search search.
plus youtube demos..
like typing in "bass distortion" "bass fuzz" "bass overdrive" "bass synth" and look.. look.. look.
go to ebay and do the same, click on stuff you never heard of, google it for reviews, or youtube it..
look at "how do i get this sound" threads and youll see tons of opinions on how folks get certain tones..
look at those pedal board shots and google anything you dont know..

After the handshake, a lot of it is word of mouth, builders posting threads, people posting threads about builders who post threads, etc.
Its all about who you (digitally) know. |

| | | | I originally found TalkBass due to my searching Google for solid information on a particular pedal. There are other gear sites, but there seems to be a higher noise level from people who speculate endlessly, but who don't have as much experience in actually using what they're speculating about, or who are only interested in the latest thing.
TalkBass has a lot of people who know what they're talking about. |

Man, I hope the guy with the paddle was a part of this or I went through all that for nothing- though the nice, big man with the rubber glove was surprisingly gentle |

If I find a pedal in my local CL that isn't too expensive, I buy it, tinker with it, and if I like it.... SCORE! If not, i use it as trade bait on here or ask around locally and either trade or sell it that way.
