How's this set up?

Hey Guys,

I've been rethinking my tone and this is what I hope to achieve with a new setup and chain.

Firstly, I wanna split my signal into different channels.
Channel A : Clean
Channel B : Dirt
Channel C : Modulation

And blend them back in together later, with a blender or something like that. I know there's the option of sending 3 channels out of the board into the house mixer. But I do play at small gigs and often they only provide one channel for my bass. And most of the time its straight in, without going through any heads or amps. So my VT at the end should provide some sort of 'amp simulation'

So here's what I thought of..

Bass > BOD > Compressor > Signal Splitter >

> Channel A >
> Channel B > Blender > VT Bass
> Channel C >

So here's the question.. What should I get to achieve this setup? In terms of the signal splitter and the blender. And is there any flaw in this setup? I might also wanna get a crossover so i can only add dirt to the highs. But maybe another time.

I don't see the purpose of the third channel. Do you mean to split the completely clean channel off *before* the BOD? Channel A & C are identical in your setup.

I guess if you're really wanting to get crazy you could have some kind of splitter right at the beginning and have a totally clean line to a DI, before a second split to the wet/modulation and dirt channels. This is what Justin Chancellor does...

Get two Loop-Master Y-splitters and an ART PowerMix III. Signal is split three ways by the splitters and combined by the mixer at the end. $20 for each line splitter, $40 for the mini mixer, so $80 plus shipping charges.

Channel C is actually gonna have modulation like chorus and a delay.

I actually do use the BOD alone or with my dirt.

And yes. I want a totally clean channel + compression out
and seperate wet and dirt channels.

Is there anything else i should note? Like the placement of pedals in the chain.
Is there a crossover in a pedal form?

I was also thinking if i could turn the switchers on or off.

Is there such a thing?
Could the mixer be in a pedal form as well? easier to manage on my board.

I actually have the same problem. I am working on building one for myself. Pete Cornish made one a while ago... Cannot be found anywhere though...

There are a number of nice *two channel* mixing pedals.. I can't think of a 3 channel blendable mixer. You could get two two-channel mixers and use them in series. Like two Barge Concepts VBJrs.

The Barge Concepts guys are open to custom projects... Maybe they could build you a three channel version? (like two VBJrs linked, in one enclosure?)

Putting EQs or HP/LP filters after each split would give you the crossover options you'd want. ... but now this is getting pricey..

Hmm, a custom Barge VBJr sounds like an option. Now time to find out the splitter thing. Kinda like a effects loop except it routes to the mixer.

Not to mention pricey, but gonna take up space too. Trying to keep the amount of pedals to the minimum.
