How's your GAS?
What are you GAS'ing for and how much does it cost? What do you have that already "does the job" and how much did that cost you? How likely are you to actually purchase your current gear obsession and/or a cheaper substitute? Note: This is not just limited to pedals.
I'm GAS'ing for:
-FEA Dual Band Comp -$345
-Sansamp BDDI Deluxe -$150-$250 Used
-Moog Low Pass Filter - $200 Used
-small 12-ish channel mixer - $200 Used
Things I have that do the job:
-FMR RNC - $100 Used
-Joemeek GBQ - $175 B-stock (I will continue to use this as a thick dist. when i get the Sansamp, but right now it's my eq, subtle od, and DI all in one)
-stupidly large 12 channel mixer - $150 used
-nothing that does the job of the LPF.
I would say I am very likely to actually purchase my GAS obsessions, given that my tax refund is due pretty soon, but I might substitute the FEA for the Ashdown pedal ($150) and the moog for an iron ether xerograph ($185) and scrap the rest for a total of $335
anyone else care to play?
I'd like to think I have it under control, but that never seems to be the case. However, I feel as un-GASSY now as ver. I have an amazing Roscoe fretless that I'm playing now, and have what I assume will be an amazing Roscoe fretted being built that I should see next month. The only bass GAS I have is for maybe a 3rd or 4th Roscoe.
My amp is fine. No GAS there. I use mostly IEM's these days and I just bought a Radial JDI and Westone UM-2's so I'm pretty set there as well.
My gig bag is getting a little wore out so maybe I need to look at one of those...
Nice thread. It's always fun to know what our fellow TBers are GASing.
As for me..........2013 is my anti-GAS year. I have to reduce! TOO MUCH STUFF!
I may need a 12 step counselor or a divorce lawyer if I don't get my GAS under control. In the last week I replaced my CS-3 with a Compressore (+$120), my VT Deluxe with a Microtubes B7K (+$400), and added the X-Blender (+$120). I really want an Eau Claire Thunder fuzz pedal ($250), and a Loud Button Morphine Dream ($400). Otherwise, I love my setup.
No more G.A.S.
Cool thread, however 2013 (and perhaps onward) I am going to try to make it my anti-GAS year. At least for the things it would be nice to have but I don't really need. Only essentials. I have everything I need right now, great bass, amp and cab. However having a second/backup bass will probably be something I will look into into the future when I need one and a couple effects pedals. But for now I am set.
I am looking at the Ibanez BTB 5 string bass.... I really like this bass - $850
Also wanting the Line 6 G30 wireless system - about $300
Read some really good reviews and talked to GC rep about it. I like it!!!
Currently I have the SR505 bass and I use a cord.
The bass SR505 is awesome. Just dreaming a bit.
But I really do need the wireless.
I'm hoping this will be a GAS free year as well. I will have (waiting for one to be built) 2 great basses, I have a really nice IEM rig and a nice mini stack for when I need an amp. Maybe a new gig bag and I'm good to go.
Time to work on playing.
I'll play. I'm GAS-ing for:
MXR Smart Gate
T-Rex Fuel Tank Jr
Boss DD-7 (to replace my DD-5, probably)
^ to finish off my main board
Line 6 M9 w/ Moog EP-2
EHX POG 2
Digitech Bass Synth Wah
TC Electronics Polytune Mini
Pedaltrain PT-JR Hardcase
^ For my second band / home board that I'm putting together.
Non-pedal-wise I'm GAS-ing for:
Mono Case Vertigo gig bag
Mono Case Club
Aguilar TH500 (also looking seriously at the Genz Benz Streamliner 900 as it would be a better back-up for my main rig)
Aguilar SL112 (x2)
Quantum Leap Symphonic plug-ins
Ibanez SR1205E Premium Five String
Fender Tony Franklin Signature Fretless
Gretsch 4 String Hollow body
Gibson RD Artist (or Standard I'm not picky :D)
....gods I could go on for days. These are at the top of my GAS list right now though.
GAS is under control...for now.
Just bought a new bass last week from a fellow TBer and and shipping out a guitar
tomorrow. Got another guitar going out next week. Am in the process of upgrading and simplifying.
Getting a Deluxe Active Jazz this weekend, and trying desperately to find a buyer for my BBM to upgrade to the Deluxe BBM.
Haha, I have my entire signal chain planned out with my GAS list! It's actually mostly stuff I need because I have no amp besides a 100 watt keyboard dealybop. But still!
It comes to about 1450 for the necessities for the sounds I'm trying to create. But still!
If I could have one thing off the list, it would be the Darkglass. That thing is... that thing is legitimately everything I've ever wanted in an overdrive. Zip zop zoobity bop.
Italian Animato clone - ordered!!! :D
Source Audio Dimension Reverb
Boss LS-2 (how do I not have one of these already? Oh yeah, college!)
Valley People Dyno-Mite compressor
Trace Elliot GP-11 Pre
Basically any QSC power amp.
2x fEARful 1212/6 cabs. :)
Electrical Guitar Company Series One Bass. Raw Aluminum all the way. >:D
Music Man Big Al 5. Black and white.
Music Man Stingray 5 H/S in natural with yellow pickguard.
Oh god, the GAS is pretty bad for me
Mobius - $450
Maybe the Darkglass Vintage - $260
Guild B302 - $800
Orange Terror Bass - $600
Nicer preamp tubes for my Mesa 400+ - $100
Total: $2210 or $1950 without the darkglass
Actually, the list isn't so bad when I consider that I have about $1250 to sell off and finance this. Or at least not bad until I start to factor in random bouts of GAS from new product releases. It especially isn't bad if I don't like the Mobius or Darkglass whenever I get to try them out.
I'm honestly a little surprised by all of the "no GAS" comments...I'm used to everyone foaming at the mouth with GAS.
...so who's actually going to get what they listed?
fortunately my pedal gas has died down over the last few months & i'm really happy with my boards. unfortunately my gas has turned to more expensive parts of the studio like my computer, converters, electronic drum setup & modular synths.
love this thread already...
I'm GAS'ing pretty hard for a Hohner Jack V headless bass. I've been looking for one for ages (its hard to come across "unusual" basses here in Ireland :P) and finally found one but as I'm a student I'm insanely strapped for cash (right now I have about 20 quid) and have barely any time to gig to earn money and as its on an auction site I'll probably have to pass on it unless the bass Im currently trying to sell sells quickly which just won't happen as its an 8 string paired octave bass :bawl:
Accessories: None. I've got my Vovox cable between my bass and my amp and that's it.
Dingwall Super P 5
Vintage Fender P
Sadowsky Modern fretless 5
(none of these appear even on the horizon of my financial scope, so i'll put them a loong way off)
aguilar Tone Hammer 500
