hum issue

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm putting together another small pedal board. I have a tuner, a envelope filter and chorus pedal. When using one of these effects pedals with the tuner, things are quiet, But when using both pedals and the tuner, there is hum. Frustrating to say the least.

Anyone have a suggestions to kill the noise?

Noise supressor (ISP Decimator, Boss NS-2).
When those pedals are used individually, do you get a hum?

No, no hum when used by themselves.

it may well be a power supply problem. what are you using for power now?

Two different small wall warts. One with an extension of multible Boss connectors powering the Korg tuner & T-Rex Sweeper, the other small wall wart with a 3.5mm type plug for the BassBalls.

If that is the issue, which power supply would I need?

What happens if you just use the T-Rex and the Bassballs without the tuner? Just asking because I know my Planet Waves tuner has a known power-grounding problem that causes an audible noise when used with other effects if they share the same power. With the Planet Waves tuner, the problem seems to go away if the tuner is put at the end of the effects chain or put on isolated power. It wouldn't surprise me if the problem was in using a daisy-chain for power for both the Sweeper and the tuner, as my EHX chorus would cause lots of noise on a power daisy-chain with other pedals as well, though this wouldn't explain why you don't get noise when you take the Bassballs out of the equation...

If you are interested in checking out isolated power supplies, the Voodoo Labs ISO 5 is a good choice for a small pedalboard (assuming the Bassballs runes on 9 volts?).

When two of the pedals are used, any two, they are quiet. When all three are used that is when there is hum. I do have the tuner at the end of the chain.

I would first try BassBalls with 9V battery instead of external PSU to check what happens in that situation.

I get a little hum if my power packs are too close to my pedals . If I move them away it is fine.
