I am not. I took it from your words. You said, and I quote...

"the big bass muff is much better"

Clearly I was assuming you said that a few posts ago.

Why do you presume your opinion is the only one that matters? At least the best part of 1,000 people own this pedal. Is it because yours is signed by Muse, because you've uploaded a YouTube video on it. Why?

Sorry for the confusion above about the word benchmark. I presumed you meant it literally.

I never once stated that mine is the only one that matters. I absolutely hate when people spread misinformation about things I know about, and this pedal is one of them. Comparing it to a rat and saying it is exactly the same from your extensive a/b testing is a disservice to the community. You obviously have no real desire to use it, or like it, so you will hear what you want to hear.

Wrong again. Chris owns 8 at least, and the store you are at apparently is overstocked, so there is a nice chunk. I would also guess that the rerelease after serial number 300 are still sitting on shelves at the asking price of 500 pounds, meaning that in reality, I would estimate only 500 or so people actually have this pedal. Remove those that have it, but left it in a closet, or those that use it for it's real use, guitar, I would slim that number down to 400.

But we get it. You hate it, and want it gone. Good. Sell it and move on. But price gouging people on Talk bass is another thing I have a problem with. You announced you paid 110 pounds for it, sell it for 110 pounds plus shipping, or maybe even 200 cause you have it and it is rare, but stop telling people to beat your 1000 pound offer via PM. Yea, word gets around, and people tell me things, especially things like this.

Haha, he really isn't my type. Point taken, I didn't post in this thread in order to have a public argument so happy to make it private.

Move along, nothing to see here...

I've been nice. PM me the store. I'll check this cat out and sell it for a profit if I come to the same conclusion. I might actually agree with you. I've never tried one, so I have no valid opinion. But I'm full of skepticism on it.

After an interest in learning about the animato, I've learned 2 things.

1. I can convince my wife I don't have to watch Pretty little liars with her, because this thread has the "script" verbatim.

2. I like the sound of the animato!

That is all..

I have one of these, i just did a Rat comparison myself, well sort of as i have the Rat emulation on the B3 to compare it to (How close it is to a real rat i dont know) but they do sound amazingly similar at certain settings, i used clean blend on both.

The comparison I did with an LM308 chipped Rat from 1982 and the Animato, both using clean blend was stark differences. Both can get close to eachother, but both sound different. Meaning you can get rat tones from the animato, and anomato tones from the rat, but using both pedals in the ideal settings sound completely different.

But surely the Rat is close enough for all but the Muse enthusiast. The Animato doesn't really have much of a use outside of a Muse cover/pastiche.

I totally disagree. That is like saying the Deep Impact is a Phish/Muse pedal, or the Marshall Gov'ner is a RATM pedal.

Everything can have a place and can be used in a different context. The fact that this pedal has only really seen the light of day because of Muse means you associate it with Muse.

No it isn't, they are all widely used, relatively easy to find pedals. The Animato is associated solely with Muse.

I've just listed one of these on eBay, with a realistic starting price and a ridiculous buy it now. Neat pedal!

Have you ever tried mixing it with another pedal? Instead of blending it by itself, y'know, going, for example, clean amp, then Big Muff -> Human Gear -> bass? I've mixed my Bass Big Muff with the Boss ODB-3, and love it; those two go together really nicely, so I was thinking of swapping the ODB-3 for it, like Chris did.
Hey! Speaking of which...

About the Hyper Music tone:

I run my '91 big box RAT through an ODB-3. If you twiddle with knobs for a while, you can get an EXTREMELY convincing tone. I ran my stingray through both pedals and it's fantastic.

You can get that window rattling GUHHHHH on the bottom D like Chris does and the roundish, super heavy attack on the octave D above it.

It's no animato, but like Kaputsport said, you can get RAT tones with an Animato and Animato tones with a RAT, but they're still distinct pedals. I think Hyper Music is one of those rare overlaps.

My dream is to run a RAT and an Animato in parallel, with that chain parallel to clean EQ'd lows. I'll be getting an Italian copy soon and when I do I'll put a review up on youtube (although Kap covered a lot of it) comparing it to my RAT.

Obviously the Animato is more versatile, but I think another sound on sound can't hurt. Unfortunately, there's barely any literature or interest in one of the coolest distortion pedals out there, period- thanks, Kap, for giving our ears a go at it.

Someone should bug Devi Ever into reproducing one.

Animato received today :)

I got my brand new animato today number 355.

I picked it up from http://www.humangear.net/ for 495 euros.

Worked out at about £430 including shipping and paypal fee.

Not bad when the last Animato I saw sell was £400 second hand on ebay a few weeks ago (wasn't even one in the first 300 serial numbers).

Juergen at humangear.net said he still has a couple in stock so well worth picking up one from him if you're still looking. Can't wait to try this with the Badger Schism when it arrives and running it with the clean and Sansamp GT/Prescription Electronics RX Overdriver
