ok so im a big muse fan and ive been looking for what is said to be chirs' sound and i have most of his pedals but ive seen many people debate that the Human gear is the best, but also that the RAT is just the same. Help me out here is the RAT just as good or is the HG Animato better to keep a look out for?

Go for a vintage reissue rat or modded rat. You'll be happier in the long run . |

Proof is in the pudding. Here is my bands new song where I use the Animato/Muff combo in the chorus (same signal chain as Hysteria). Note the solo version where I use the Deep Impact into the Animato while still using the muff and a clean chain. This is the closest you will get to Chris's sound. YouTube - Running Out Of Time
You will also notice in the video, if you watch it and not listen to it, there is a picture of a first version rat and Russian muff with various settings (2:08)... I have tried every rat out there, and nothing touches the Animato.

Isn't the Animato a Fuzz and the Rat,....not a fuzz,....?
Sounds like Apples and Oranges to me. |

Thanks for the clarification though,...I was misinformed. |

And hey, no problem. If I have the info, I share it. No sense in holding it all to myself. |

The Animato is used in a tri-amped rig. One amp would get the Anmato, one the muff and one clean. Using the pedal this way makes the good characteristics come out and the clean bass to come through masking the low end loss.
Don't get me wrong, Grygrx does a cool service for this board and bassfuzz.com, but I think the context was wrong with this one. Again, listen to the above posted song. You will hear that the bass sounds rich, full and fat, with tons of sizzle, and it actually compliments the guitar. |

| | | | Right now I pretty much have Chris' origin of symmetry board sans animato and fm4. While the RAT isn't dead on I feel it's pretty decent. Mind you I'm not using a pedulla or DBS like kaput but for me I'm a happy camper. I will probably pick up an animato when I have the cash and the opportunity presents itself but for now what I have works. If you'd like to hear pm me with your email and I can shoot you a few recordings.
PS my RAT is a vintage one (LM308).
