The Creation Audio Labs MK 4:23 looks awesome, and it sounds awesome, but is there something more reasonable?

There are hundreds of "good" clean boosts. Here's a start:

Nothing wrong with the MXR either.

I have a MXR/CAE boost (the one in black with blue led) i got rid of it once for another boost. And ended up getting it back. It not only boosts your signal but adds some body to it which i like alot. Its a keeper in my books.

I'm thinking something that doesn't alter the tone too much.

How is the EHX LPB-1?

FWIW I just bought a Radial PB1 for $133 new/shipped, I'll let you know how it is in a couple of days. http://www.tonebone.com/re-bigshot-pb1.htm

I was going to suggest EHX LPB as well if you're just looking for a real clean boost...

You can look into the ebayz or into people who make clones/replicas which would allow to have something that looks "different" for your board.

I'm interested to hear Bongo's thoughts on that pedal!

I have the Mk.4.23 you mentioned. It was priced wrong, (my favor), so I snagged it. Absolutely fantastic, no noise, lottsa boost (+24dB). I had the LPB-1, and although it's fine, it is a little noisey. I just can't deal with added noise.

The Catalinbread Serrano Picaso is a nice little clean boost. +30db of boost, and stays nice and clean up to about 1-2 o'clock...then it starts to break a little...but it gives you a lot of room before you reach that point.

Another nice clean boost is the Lizard Leg Blue tail.

If i needed a boost, i'd get this one.

Although don't rush out and buy one, i'm waiting for their new pedal to come out, and every order they get between now and then slows that down! Ha.

Okay i had the DB-3 after i had the CAE line boost at first, and even though its versatile, it had more or a trebly-dried out push, compared to the body and low end that the CAE line boost was able to keep. Which is why i sold the DB-3 and got mysef another line boost. Thats just imo. The db-3 sounds great on guitar though.

MXR Custom Audio Electronics Boost/Line Driver. Up to 20 dBs of boost. Seems plenty for me and very clean.

Xotic makes an RC Boost for bass, I'm actually using the guitar version on bass. It's fantastic for clean boosting and as a preamp with the EQ controls.

I've been happy with a couple in particular:

* Wobo Buffer/booster -- thing on this one is that the buffer is always engaged, even when the boost is not... so you always have a buffer for the last 10-15' of cable before your amp... this is a very clean boost

* Fulltone Fatboost -- does as the name implies, is out of the signal chain entirely when pedal is off

* SIB Fatdrive -- kinda clean I guess, but definitely adds some fatness. My personal favorite... it's a big pedal and AC-powered... definitely not as uber-transparent as the Wobo

I made one

Pretty simple circuit and it gives more than enough boost. It gives more than I need anyways

Big +1. I just picked one up, I got it pretty much for the size, since my board was a little cramped, but this thing is great.

I totally agree, and bought my Serrano Picaso on a recommendation from Tayste, and because of the size as well...and love it...
