I Believe...... (Noisebox!!!!)

So I thought I had everything I needed for my D'n'B, Dub, Nu-Jazz project besides the Tap Tempo LFO I am waiting to have built. I had some extra funds and bought the Noisebox on a whim.
I had no idea what I was missing. This thing is madness, but very controllable madness! How did I live with out it?
Usually when I buy a pedal I have super high expectations and it doesn't live up to it. With this I had no real expectations and it blew me away.

They really are something special. I got one sort of as a joke just to mess around with, but nay, very usable pedal. I mostly use it in my noise/ambient project, but it comes in handy for regular ol' rock and/or roll at times as well.

I think my favourite part is the colour. It looks so harmless.

All the samples I ever heard of the Noisebox were very thin and trebly - can it sound deep too?

When I crank the Level and then back off the whackiness via the Voice knob (keeping it between 9 and 3 o'clock), it keeps plenty of low end. It pretty much decimates your original signal though.

I felt the same way as you about the clips I heard until I heard these....

Courtesy of Merlinaz. So yes it can sound deep. Throw an OC2 in front with a Moog 101 after it kills.

I blend it with a Boss LS2 also, keeps the Phat on the bottom.

What would the Moog actually contribute there?

If you're sweeping the cutoff, then it means that with the expression pedal up you'll get pretty much just the fundamental from the OC-2. As you sweep (moving the cutoff frequency up from the minimum you chose) it will let in more and more of the frequency range.

The link to Merlinaz's clips doesn't seem to work, but if you find it, check out the ones with the Moog. They really are pretty cool.

aaah ok, so you'd be manipulating the moog as you went, not just letting it do the filter thing on its' own..... I gotcha.

Exactly.

Also, you guys are killing me.

I thought I had my pedalboard sorted out, and now I'm thinking about a Moog Ring Mod, a Noisebox and splitting my board into two boards, one for synth stuff and one for modulation.

I need to seek professional help.

That's pretty much the route I'm going with my new board. See what you get for hanging around the FX forum so much

Earlier today, for the first time ever, I thought: "I think my board is actually complete!"

An hour later I bought a flanger.

I loved the noisebox when i had it and am seriously tempted to get another one. I found it had no low end what so ever though. It does have downright NASTY mids tho, and i believe with a bit more tweaking/adding other pedals i could get a good bass sound. (ie: tone down the mids and boost the level: as Nad said)

It actually sounds better on bass than guitar, and I dont believe anthing else can really get close to it, some compare it to the Prunes & Custard, but psh, the noisebox is far more extreme, but i believe it comes at the cost of 'traditional' useability - i doubt it'd replace any pedals on your board, but then again if you found a use for it, you'd probably only be able to it with another Noisebox

That's great.

I thought my board was complete until I wired it all together last night and noticed a gap at the end big enough for another couple of pedals. I don't need any more, but I'm going to have them.

just got mine yesterday, killed an hour playing with it late at night lol

its so awesome the way you can get so many sounds out of it,... like roll the sensitivity way up for a 'wet quack' or roll it down to just activate the hormonic frequency,...

I've pretty much got mine on a wet quacking non tracking octave and very midsy voice etc,... sounds so evil! one thing that I do kind of like about it is the frequency can just keep going up and up and up... its crazy! doesnt sound really usable on bass past 1 o'clock or so but love that theres so many sounds in the one box!

will have to try running my ps-3 in front of it,... and some delay behind... mmm that could be evil!

+1,000,000!
First pedal I ever used that made me smile the second I turned it on! I still do every time!

You know, I really don't see much in the way of similarities between the Prunes and the Noisebox.....They sound completely different to me, and seem like they were designed to do different things....
