There are a lot of the Behringer rack units in my local CL for around $40 - $50.

Are they that bad?

any time you see a lot of anything for sale cheap it can't be good. There are some exceptions to the rule like you may see a lot of 8X10 cabs for sale. They could be great but as you get older you don't want to lug an 8X10 around. Good products generally don't flood the craigslist market, they trickle in avery now and then.

They only cost around $100 new and Behringer has a reputation for being crappy. I have a couple of the compressors: a 2200 and a 2600. They seem to work fine. I don't know if they'll take much abuse... They're doing what I need them to do.

EDIT: I just checked my local Craigslist and didn't see one Behringer compressor for sale. There were plenty of Behringer amps, but no compressors. Regional thing? I don't know.

I had one a few years back. My memory might be a little fuzzy because of the elapsed time and my general lack of compressor experience, but I remember it as being very transparent, with no real noise. I used it for vox and it worked great at leveling stuff out without creating a noticeable amount of "squash." And all that came from a guy who had no previous experience using a compressor.

I've liked all the behringer rack gear I've owned over the years, but it is kind of fragile. My eq started losing fader knobs pretty quickly.
