What is the purpose of them if you have an EQ on your amp head and on your bass
I mean seriously! Why make things more complicated than they have to be, or am I just missing the point |

Also, the pedal may be more versatile than your amp. I have two Boss Parametric EQs that I use from time to time, and they give me options no amp has EVER given me.
You can also use them in a loop on your pedal board, so that it only kicks in when you go to a particular loop (with, say, other preset tones like a fuzz and autowah or something).
Make more sense?

Such as, when using a pick
when using a certain effect
when doing palm mutes
when slapping
to make up for a less than versatile amps eq
etc

I wanted to utilize the 18" Peavey sub behind me so I boosted the bass on the EQ. But I don't use it for anything else, so I'm considering a complete rig makeover. New bass and amp and ditching all the old gear

Also, depending on where it's placed in the pedal chain, it could be used to alter the tone of the individual effects.
The only practical use I can see is that if you're switching basses, but I mean...really...haha |

I also have it tweaked to get a warmer tremolo out of the pedal, and I have both pedals located in 1 loop of my loooper pedal. I got the para EQ for like $30 so it was a cheaper alternative to getting the TR-2 modded.
I haven't used it for anything else other than a boost for the trem, but in the future I may find another use for it. |

Simple answer to the OP: So you can have equalization you can turn on, and off.
Doesn't get any more simple than that.
Or....
If you have an amp with only a three band equalizer (like I currently) a multiband EQ allows you to shape a tone you desire. (If all else fails: bass, pick up, amp,...)
While on the subject, does anyone knows if a 12band EQ unit exist that is not a rack unit.
And where to get it. |
