I got my Maestro Stage Phaser!!!! (56k warning)

So some of you may remember my thread about huge sounding phasers. I ended up deciding to give the Maestro Stage Phaser a try, since I conveniently found one listed under Guitar Center's used section (in Chicago). Well, I was taking a nap when my dog woke me up because the UPS guy stopped by and dropped off my box!

I opened it up, took out this pedal and uh... well, pictures can speak louder than words...

Side by side with a Boss BF-3 Flanger:

With a MXR Phase 90 ontop:

Now of course, I would be obligated to give you all soundclips (and by Geddy, I want to give you sound clips!). However, I have a problem. You see, the Speed knob isn't working. What exactly is wrong with it, I'm not sure. But here's more pictures.

The one side that's working:

And the side that isn't:

So does anyone have any idea of what I can do to fix this?

Nope, something's definitely not working. Unless the pedal isn't supposed to make a swooshing sound.

Aside from the light not coming on, everything I turn the pedal, I hear a rattling inside. So I'm thinking something came loose during shipping.

But damned if this pedal doesn't sound awesome! When I set the balls up, it gives this great punchy tone that I love.

Jimminy Christmas! I can't even figure out how to open this thing up to figure out what's wrong! I know there's two screws on the side, but they didn't seem to do anything when I took them off.

I might just return it and get another one that isn't broken.

It's huge. It would have to be the end all be all to make that size workable. And it doesn't work. Will GC do a swap online? Hope you get it sorted.

The guy said that if I don't get it worked out that I can return it. Hopefully I won't have to pay shipping, but even if I do, oh well.

I'm seriously thinking that I should look for the other phaser that Maestro released. Fretlessman71 on here has one. I'm hoping it might be smaller. But really, I'd just like to get this one fix so I may rock everyone's faces off.

These are a bitch to open, you have to get two long alen wrenches and take the wheels off. Then you will notice some more screws.

That's discouraging, Josh. I think I might just send it back and get another one elsewhere.

Keep your eye out for the non stage version too, it's half the size and sounds just as good, I used to have one...until someone "borrowed" it.

So I guess the "Stage" means it takes up the whole stage...

Probably! Or maybe you'd need a second stage to act as your pedal board if you bring just two of these things.

Yeah, I think I'll just pick up the stage version. I might not need the presets. Of course, I wouldn't really know if I do or not...
