They're used for the bass/treble levels. I can't really see them being used for anything more than bass/treble or adding a slew of other things to tweak. |

A concentric pot probably prevents that if the pedal isn't really tall. It'd probably be tought to squeeze bits in, and a bump in price for most people that aren't boss/berringer. |
