I have $75, what should I buy?

Sign in to disble this ad
I play a Fender Jazz Bass (Mexican Standard) in an indie rock band- not too heavy, not too light except for a couple of acoustic songs.

Our lead singer (best friend) got me a $75 giftcard to musiciansfriend for my birthday and I wanted some feedback on what I should use it on. I currently play the Fender through a GK amp and cab (4x10). I have a Bass Big Muff and a Boss Delay pedal (one of our songs requires bass reverse for the intro). I also have a DOD pedal compressor, but I never use it because it's terrible.

The amp head has a tuner out with mute, so I've been using that with a pocket tuner in the past. Should I buy a tuning pedal for convenience? Should I buy a better compressor pedal? Should I buy something completely different?

Here's our website if you'd like to get a feel for our style of music: www.clapfordaylight.com

Thanks for the input!

I would buy a tuner pedal. If you end up playing clubs where you are running into a direct box, it would be nice to tune without having to unplug anything.

Definite +1 on the tuner pedal... I bought one recently and now I've no idea how I managed without it!

Mine's the Artec Big Dots tuner and it's so good

I saw tuner pedal and don't be cheap and buy a Behringer, I have one and it has to think for a while until it might tell me what note I'm in. Also it does not do any notes like a low B.

Put you DOD compressor on Craigslist and then you'll have a little more $ to spend.
A tuner is a good thing to have. Do you find your bass goes out of tune fairly often? You might get more bang for your buck with a compressor if you really dig compression.

if you're interested in modulation effects, check out the danelectro cool cat cc-1 chorus pedal. this pedal can deliver smooth retro chorus sounds and it sounds amazing on bass. I definitely recommend danelectro chorus pedals to anyone looking for a good affordable chorus pedal to own.

Not sure if you would get a decent comp foor 75 $ (even used), but a tuner is a great idea.

Option: good patch cables !

Digitech Bad Monkey for overdrive, and Ibanez LU10 tuner (to run off the second output of the Bad Monkey). $70, tuner + more distortion. On budget. WIN

id say a light overdrive or a chorus. ive never needed to tune during a show, but i have needed to smooth out attacks and make my bass go wublublub. and then later get all mean and go awrawrawr.
