Well, I've been working out this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Yw2R5JarCo
and I've got the playing down and I'm wondering...how the **** does this guy get his bass to sound like that, its a stringray (5 string) I think....and thats about as far as I know.
I don't expect to be able to come close to what he does, I just want to know how he did it...cause its bugging me

That's what a Stingray sounds like, man. haha
Remember, this is an internet video so live, there's probably a little more bass in the mix if you heard it in person.

You also could email that dude and ask him about his settings on the bass, head, etc.

It sounds too....Ionno, buzzy, maybe because of the tuning Meshuggah uses (everything up 1/2 step)

Definitely has a distortion going. Reminds me of the Ampeg Billy Sheehan Preamp I used to have. Also kind of makes me think of Justin Chancellor's tone with his ProCo Rat.

Hah, its not that hard really, its way more complex than it sounds just because every other not is an open string tied to the other note, add that to eighth notes in a 220bpm song, and it sounds hard.
