unfortunatly my band is a bunch of pussies and i just can't afford to go around buying all the pedals i want and still make my bass sound subtle enough for these pansies i'm playing with.

i love the fuzz but the stuff we are playing requires a much more mellow hand, yet my soul yearns for just a bit of grit.

the big muff pi i picked up is too much. it lacks the dexterity i'm aiming for. any suggestions on a pedal i might want to try next?

my fav bassist, dean smith of rufus huff, plays a vintage fender p and uses a fulltone bass driver. that's the sound i'm striving for. on my 2008 washburn.

Have you tried the Fulltone Bass Drive?

To be honest you'd probably be happy with a Digitech Bad Monkey - a dirt-cheap but bass-friendly Tubescreamer clone.

Did you try a Fulltone Bass Driver? Thats the obvious thing.

And watch your language, you have to keep it SFW. Even if in your opinion it is SFW.

if you want a bit of grit, but keeping your clean signal, try an overdrive.

i too love big muffs, and maybe MC hammer does too.....

i've played the fulltone and do like it. i can adjust my dirt a lot lower than the big muff allows. but the muff is about half the price. but of course it doesn't fill my needs....

and what is sfw? safe for women? you mean pussies? okay. no prob. my bad.

oh, and thanks.

SFW= safe for work.

As in, not saying what you just did. Not only vulgar, but sexist. Way to go.

Start a second band with people who aren't wusses.

Also, cut down on the sexism. It's stupid.

If you like the fuzz tone, try the Bass Big Muff instead. The "dry" option really makes a fuzz tone tolerable IMO.

Erm... sorry rain on your righteous parade but P..sy as in female genitailia and P..sy as in weak are different words, from different origins.

edit: just as a side note, why isn't Muff included in a SWF ban for the same reason? A work collegue giggled like a pre-teen when I had my Bass Big Muff delivered last week.

Oh stop with the sexism nonsense! Yeah, it might not fly on TB...I can't explain the way the mod wind blows these days...but it's not sexism to call band members that. I do it all the time, and I'd bet most of you have done it a time or two, too.

this is for real, you you will notice that in the proper context, people can call other people the P word without being bleeped. make my funk the p funk

then again does anybody remember the controversy over the word "niggardly" a few years back? similar in a way. it means "lazy/unmotivated" and is not related to the color black, totally non-latin origins...

yes, the big bass muff. i got the regular big muff. prob works better for a guitar than bass. although it sounds pretty bad ass to me. it's just that one sound though really. no way to tone it down. i rented it for five bucks so it's no big deal. i'm sure i'll play with it for a couple of days and take it back and see if they can get me a big bass muff.

You other brothers can't deny.

capncal- English Muffn, tube overdrive that can get a little fuzzy when dimed(but its definitely not a fuzz), fat and tubey with no grit when the gain is at 0, and sounds great all in between from a little grit to 'cranked marshall'.

They go for $100+ on the used market. I don't know what the moolon bass drive or that bassist sound like, but I love the english muffn and recomend listening to some clips or checking it out at your local music store.
