I need advice with building a pedalboard.

Hi, so its Uni holidays here (not to mention I quit my main job) so I have a lot of downtime at the moment. I was looking at things to entertain me and it struck me... build a pedalboard.

So here is my progress so far. I found some ply and cut it to shape and rounded the edges a bit as such:

Now as to the odd shape. Its cut so that it fits into this:

Its kind of hard to make out but its a glockenspiel case (my brother happens to be learning percussion at school so I helped myself to his case).

Now here is my dilemma. How to finish it and how to stick the pedals to it. I have a couple ideas which are:

1). Spray paint it black and then stick velcro strips to it.
2). Cover it in some kind of carpet and attach the rough velcro to the pedals.

My initial thought was to go with carpet but thinking now it will probably get pretty disgusting pretty quickly. Doing a quick search here I've seen truck bed liner as another suggestion.

So yeah whats your guys thoughts?

(Sorry for the pics, its a new camera and I have no idea how it works. Also I had to compress them a lot because my internet has been capped to dial up speed )

Black paint/velcro. That's my vote.

Hmm, thanks for the advice. JJ I might stain it, I think I have some in the garage somewhere. Otherwise I'm going to paint, then lacquer it and add velcro.

I went with a stain on my last one and to be honest, it seemed to take away from the overall look of the thing. The pedals just sort of blended in rather than standing out.

On my new one, it'll be black so the pedals should stand out really well.

True, I didnt think about that. The other paint option is to give it to my friend who does a lot of spraypainting/stenciling for her course and let her go nuts with it. Unfortunately shes away for the next few weeks though.

Really, my board isn't made for people to look at....I just prefer the pedals to stand out from the board when I'm looking at it.
