Hi !

I made a bad choice at a music store and need to exchange (no refund possible) the EHX Bass Metaphors I bought. In brief, I couldn't hear the noise it made 'cause of the store's AC... got back home and started swearing ! Anyways, it's a compressor I'm more interested in and here's what they have in stock, pretty much : Visual Sound Route 66, MXR DynaComp and Super Comp, Whirlwind Rochester Red Box compressor, or I could take a chance and get them to order a Carl Martin Classic OptoComp, or I could give up on compressors and find something else...

That sucks that you weren't able to get a refund.

What are you looking for in a comp? Besides the hiss, did you like the EHX? Have you read bongomania's compressor reviews?

What I actually liked of the EHX is that I was getting something extra, not just the comp. At the store, the comp sounded fine, actually. I read Bongomania's review on it, he didn't like it... but other reviewers elsewhere loved it... I think I'm gonna trust only Bongomania's reviews from now on

Problem is, he didn't review the Super Comp and the Whirlwind.

I thought the VS was OK when I tried it once. When I use a compressor I like the BBE OptoStomp. I don't like it super squashed so it's nice. Very subtle.

IMO, the Super Comp isn't great on bass. No idea about the Whirlwind, I've never even heard of it.

+100000 to Bongo's killer reviews, I learned a tonne just be surfing around his site!

What are you looking for in a Compressor? I personally don't use very much compression at all, but others need/want more compression to get the job done. I haven't personally played any of those pedals, but I've never heard anything horribly bad about the BBE OptoStomp before...that wouldn't be a terrible place to start.
