I need help with tuning on my Zoom B1 Multi Fx pedal

Sign in to disble this ad
I bought one of these, and never thought I'd use it for tuning. I need to now, since my old pedal tuner broke, and I don't have time to go out and buy another one. I threw out the manual because I didn't know I'd need it.

Does anyone know how to tune with these things?

I've not used a B1, but on my B2 one accesses the tuning interface by pressing both foot stomps simultaneously.

Or you can read what's written on the pedal. It says how to activate tuner mode.
You will ALWAYS need the manual for a multi-effect at some point.

step on both stomp switches at the same time to engage tuner mode.

then start tuning.

pluck the string, the readout will show the note. you want the turn until second digit stops rotating and show a nice 8.

if it rotates on the top, you're too high, if it rotates at the bottom, you're too low. adjust as necessary.

Also, the speed of the second digit's rotation indicates how far away from the note you are. Fast rotation means you're pretty far off the mark, and the slower you get the better.

Thanks a bunch guys. I figured it out, and it's so much easier then actually using a tuner.

Anyway, now I know not to throw out the manual for the next multiFX pedal I buy, but atleast there are places like this for people like me.

In my kingdom that offence would get you a month in solitary. Admitting it in a public forum would get you ten lashes with a cat-o-nine-tails.

The further offence of not having the independent thought of downloading the manual from the manufacturers website and finding the answer for yourself would get you a public stoning.

I actually gave that a try, but I on accidentally clicked the "always open items like this in notepad". Whenever I opened it it would come up in some Japanese writing or something.

I also figured this would be easier. You guys seem to know what you're talking about.

BTW, the Zoom tuner is very accurate and tracks very well. I find it performs much better than several other bass tuners I have worked with.

My biggest complaint - stomping both switches at the same time to get to the tuner. Whoever thought that up should get 40 lashes. It should have been just one of the switches, holding it down for several seconds, to get to the tuner.

Hitting both switches is quite challenging and I have big feets. I use a pedal plugged into the Zoom for bypass/mute/tune mode, any keyboard sustain pedal will work and i think it will keep the foot switches working longer.

It's good to hear I'm not the only one.

I gigged with the B2 for years, and, getting the tuner
engaged was always a pain in the butt for me.

I don't understand Why they designed it that way. As far as I know, there aren't other functions triggered by a Single button held down for a few seconds. If true, why bother with requiring Both buttons down for a few seconds?

And, you can't hold one, then hit the other, then hold both for a few seconds. You gotta hit Both suckers at exactly the same time. Man.

Wow, that sucks. I was planning on using my soon-to-arrive B2 to tune and ditching my little Korg tuner. Eh, I'll figure out a way to make it work. I have to, otherwise I'll have to waste the effects loop of my Microbass II to a tuner.

And no, getting a new tuner is out of the question. When I can buy one for $20 as opposed to $100, forget about it.

Well, again, at least the good news is - the tuner on the Zoom B series is really good. I have never tried a Petersen strobowhatever
but I have used a bunch of different bass tuners, and so far, the tuner in that Zoom unit has been the best one for me.
