The SABDDI is a wonderful tool, and can provide some very good sounds - from clean to warm, tubey drive. It serves beautifully as a DI for live playing and recording. The SABDDI also can be used as a preamp or just an effects box. However, one thing it WILL NOT do is fuzz. Fuzz is extreme distortion of the signal to the point of creating a square soundwave (ref. FAQ's for a description of OD vs. distortion vs. fuzz), and the SABDDI just can't get there - and it's not intended to.
If you like what you've heard (that IS a good enough reason to buy ANYTHING!

), go for it. You certainly wouldn't even consider it if you didn't like how it sounded. Other people have other preferences based on their needs and their ears, not yours. Go for what gets the job done for YOU, not what's popular.
One thing about the SABDDI (regular and programmable), is that the resale value is pretty good. If it turns out you hate it, you won't take a big loss. Better yet, try and buy a used one yourself.
