I want my passive entry level GSR-190 to sound like an active Stingray. Is there an effects pedal that will come close? My amp is a Fender Rumble 2x10. Thanks! |

Other than that what kind of pickups does your bass have? I wouldn't count on being able to make single coil pickups sound like one of those big stingray humbuckers, and really trying to EQ single coils to sound like humbuckers is a real half measure in my book.
The other thing you might be looking for is a simple fresh set of strings. |

The closest on the Ibanez side of things would be out of their ATK series. If looking beyond Ibanez, check out OLP basses - they make an MM-style bass which works well on a budget.

J = single-coil
MM = a really big humbucker
The simplest solution would be to emphasize your bridge pickup. Crank the tone knob if you want a brighter sound.

I tried the ATK and didn't like the feel of it. I'll check out the OLP's - thanks for the tip! |

There's not much you can do to make it sound like a StingRay, IMHO. I suppose you could rout it out for a MM pickup and stuff a Seymour Duncan active preamp in it, but what would be the point of that? It's got a nice thin playable neck, and it's a good value for what it is. But it is what it is. I wouldn't recommend modding this bass - save your money for your next bass. |

| | | | I'd say the best thing to do would be to rock the Ibanez, work as much as you can without going insane and save up for a Stingray. Nothing will make a better stingray sound than a ray itself. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
