Ibanez AF-9 vs. Maxon AF-9

Sign in to disble this ad
can someone please explain the difference between the Ibanez AF-9 and the Maxon AF-9 auto-filter?

Same circuit?

Do both sound close to the original Mu-Tron III?

Thanks for constructive answers.

Maxon is the original, and the Ibanez was possibly built by Maxon for Ibanez. I know that's how it used to be anyway. If not, then the Ibanez would be a copy. Should be the same circuit either way.

ok thanks.

PROBLEM: i just got my Ibanez AF-9 auto filter ... with activating the pedal the volume drop is very hard ... any solution to this? Would a booster or compressor before/after the AF-9 help to solve the volume drop issue? I remember the same issue with my DOD FX25B.

Neither of those pedals has a volume drop when they are working properly. The FX25B's that have a volume drop are ones that had a parts failure. I'd imagine there's just something wrong with your pedal--some part that has gone bad, or a weak solder joint, etc.

The one other thing is when the filter is closed, a lot less of your signal is getting through. So be sure you are not just playing it so the filter is closed all the time.

+1

My AF-9 has a mild volume increase when activated.

Agreed. I have the Maxon, and if anything, there is a slight volume increase when the pedal is engaged. BTW, the Maxon is a GREAT pedal. I don't think that you can go wrong with either the Maxon or the Ibanez. They are essentially the same thing.
