Cool ibanez ph-7 phaser review with clip!

Sign in to disble this ad
this is my first review so if i its really bad or i miss any essential details please feel free to suggest me stuff. ok so here is the review

i got this pedal used from another TB'er but it new sells for about 60$ at MF. i bought it after selling my small stone nano which i found kinda too subtle for my tastes. i've had it for around for a while now, about a year or 10 months or so. it has 4 knobs and a mode selection switch. the knobs are regular speed. depth, feedback and level and their function is pretty obvious. the mode switch gives you two modes for 4 stage and 8 stage phasing.

i have faced no issues with it what so ever, ever! BUT it does give me a little buzz when i power it from a daisy chain, at some venues it doesnt but usually it does and so do a few other pedals i have. i have found its nothing wrong with the pedal but some grounding issues some pedals are hyper sensitive to if am not wrong. so nothing to worry about if you have a nice power supply. at gigs or recordings i power mine from a separate adapter or a battery.

it takes regular 9v and will run on both battery and a dc adapter. has cool locking knobs too
now i have this one clip i recorded. i gots like this
clean bass then I turn on the phaser in mode 1 then switch to mode 2 with fuzz (at 55seconds into the clip) and then clean bass with mode2

other gear used:
squier passive jazz bass, vt bass on as my preamp and the fuzz was BBM. all that going straight into my soundcard. no eq or compression or anything was added.

the settings i had on the phaser were speed at 2oc and everything else at nearly 3oc! i dont know why i had these setting but i like the sound so i dont change anything. if you want to hear clips of another setting let me know, i'd do it for you.

i think its highly underrated and a great phaser for bass. for 60 bucks its just awesome. but i also think nano small stone is overrated so we may have different tastes. hope you like it!

that sounds pretty mean! a little bright for my taste though. does the PH-7 have any kind of frequency control?

yeah i dont think it effects the lows as much as it effects the higher frequencies but thats why maybe it is able to retain some nice bottom. i had the depth and feedback set pretty high at 3oc maybe turning them back would help and the clean tone as it is kinda on the brighter side

or you could just cut the highs on your bass. I sometimes like a phase that focuses on the high end, but more often i like to actually EMPHASISZE phase on the low end - it can really add some "oomph". That's why i like a phaser with frequency control - unfortunately there aren't enough of 'em!

yeah i bet they'd cost much more too. i think you are right about cutting some highs on the bass if you like darker fatter tones!

Yeah, ditto that's why I like the Stereo Polyphase so much. I keep the start freq all the way at the minimum, and the stop at about 11:00. So the sweep goes all the way down to my lowest strings, but doesn't go up into the upper harmonics. I've found I like phaser more as a throb (kinda like a univibe in a way) than a real swoosh.

To the OP, nice clip, thanks! Always like to hear more modulation on bass.
