The SM7 will swing towards the treble side of distortion, you will lose all of your bottom end. Unless this is the particular sound that you are trying to achieve...i would go with the PD7 pedal as its like the SM but built for bass and will help keep your low end intact.

The Bass Big Muff is an excellent "general use" fuzz. There are others that do specific sounds better, but the BBM is great for most uses, and it's very good for the money.

I used to use a smash box in my punk rock days. It was perfect for that. I used a spector NS-2A bass strung with flatwound strings, which played nicely with the smash box. I also had plenty of bottom end in my sound but that may have been thanks to my 8x10 rig I often broke out for gigs
All of the recordings here were done using the smash box... some are better than others

In my opinion, the Big Muff lacks definition (notes blur together) but I never tried the Bass Big Muff.

Look around here, spend some time reading, before you buy... lots of good options.

For overdrive, a good inexpensive choice is the DOD 250. It adds some grind, but isn't too crazy.

Personally, I don't really like a lot of fuzzes for bass, but there are a few good ones - but they are usually expensive. For inexpensive fuzz, I like the Guyatone TZ2 if you want something more crazy than the DOD 250.

Just my opinion though!
