ibanez weeping demon volume problems

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guys,

let me explain my setup and then just see if anyone can offer me any help,...

I'm not sure if its my bass or the weeping demon,...

I have a Ibanez K5 (does anyone know if this is active or passive? I know it has battery powered EQ but the actual output seems alot quieter than my rbx375... ) which I plug into my crate 220BT head and cab... using the button for -15db active setting (used to use it for the rbx375 cos was so loud, now its alot quieter with the K5 but I dont want to overload it and especially as im just practicing etc dont see the point in loudness doing that)...

Because I've been saving for a pedal board and only have a few cables basically been only running one effects pedal at a time when im mucking around, all my other pedals there is no noticable loss of volume,... when I plugged in the weeping demon straight in between bass and head the volume was pretty noticably dropped and the actual "wah" effect was diminished to heck as well? decided to try with the -15db taken off and it was a bit better but still noticably different (even with volume at full on weeping demon)... decided to put my phat hed pedal in between bass and wah and see how that went,... was exceptional boost in volume but now had mega hissing going on!!! (didnt think that would be much of a worry with just two pedals and short cables between!) but mmm distortion with the weeping demon was nuts,... I love it

mmm so does anyone have any opinions on the volume suck with the weeping demon clean and the hissing? I dont want to get anymore pedals to combat such as noise suppressor and what not as I im trying to keep it all down to minimal pedals and a small board

cheers

Yep, sounds like the battery is dying, it should be easy to put in a new one and see if it helps. --Kent

well quick update

I replaced the battery to not much effect,... its giving hum (I found it was amplified muchly by using distortion before), its very hard to get much effect sound out of it without full attack and loud volume on amp (which increases hum)... it also want match volume with amp (too soft on clean, too loud with distortion running through) and the only usable setting is volume up on full on the weeping demon!!! oh and it wont let me slowly sweep either?? (either clean/distorted)

this is the only one of 8 of my pedals that seems to do this does it just not like my bass or something??? Ive been using it in reference to the other mp3's ive heard on talkbass,... is there anything I could be missing??? and clean or distorted they all sound like the effect comes through fully clean and can be slowy sweepable!

im going to try and power it via power supply and see if that makes any difference as using batteries hasnt remedied anything...

well with the combo it still needed to be turned up full,... but the volume balanced out,...

and with the button slider down on low on the weeping demon it was fully matched, in control and coming through on all notes,... so that makes me happy...

do all weeping demons have a hummy alsmot feedback sound to them through the amp (like if the wah is on I can control the sound of it through the pedal,... im guessing could be cos I have everything turned way up to match volumes??? hmmm)

still I got 9/10ths of the way there so happy now

i use mine with the switch on the gu*tar setting, and love the sound with either an HM2, MXR distortion 3, or an old DOD Bass grunge!

glad to hear you're making headway though!

yeah I used the guitar version but on my little practice combo just sounded smoother in the switch down position...

thanks im having fun with the phat hed running into the weeping demon,... do most people use wah's with od/fuzz/distortion on or play clean? im having alot of fun with it but as its my first wah pedal I dont have too much of an idea what im doing,... im amazed at what leaving the pedal in different positions can do to change the sound tho... toe down (is that what they call it when its horizontal?) does a really nice trebly metallic sound to it
