An idea for a pedalboard

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so I'm really starting to get into the experimental effects based stuff, and have also been asked to help my friend start up a experimental techno-rock group. So I wanted to get the following types of pedal.

Wah Pedal (already have a Morley PWO, swapping to an Ibanez Weeping Demon)
Fuzz (already have a BBM)
Synth (Possibly a Digitech BSW)
Phaser (possibly a MXR Phase 90, want something cheaper)
Tremolo (found a Line6 one, but am looking for something better)
Delay/Echo (Something like the Boss model, looking for something a little cheaper)
Octave (liking the POG and the Boss Octaver, but a little too pricey)

I'm kinda looking for some ideas as to what pedal to get. I don't wanna spend more than £60 - £70 per pedal (apart from the weeping demon) and I'm hoping maybe you can help me make the right decisions for each pedal.

Many thanks to anyone that helps

I'd get a dedicated filter, then you wouldn't need a synth, as you can get all the synth sounds you would of a synth pedal (and many more) out of combinations of the stuff you've listed (mostly fuzz + octave + filter) a DOD FX25B would be my suggestion in that price range, gives you that great dub bass thump

For octave down definitley the Boss OC-2, you should definitley be able to get one for under £60, don't get a vintage MIJ black label octaver (with the r) unless it's the same price as a more common tawian made ocatve (no r) the circuit is identical but idiots pay £100 more for a japanese octaver

Ok, I'm definantly gunna get an OC-2 But I really like the Digitech Bass Synth Wah because it has a really good sweep effect on it. I've found it for about £45 in some places.

If you want to get some techno/rock going you will probably need a lot op punch in your sound with some fuzzsynth added. A lot of fuzzes seem to take the punch away so you might want to try something that is in some way gated or acts like it. A bassfuzz to replace your bbm might be a good idea (sorry for induced GAS ). With all the modulation (especially delay/echo) I would watch out with making your sound less "tight" so I'd put them on low priority unless you have something special in mind. Tremolo could work nice to create a whobble synth so thats ok. For octave the oc-2 seems a good choice but I'd first get the synth going and then look if you need it. For the synth spot I would take a look at the Bass Micro Synth for some analoge goodness (It has built in fuzz and octave section combined with a very advanced filter section that might make the filter redundant).

Just some random ideas, hope they help

btw. Im wanting to start something similar someday but cash is keeping me back but my dream setup is a BMS with loads of added dirt like the bassfuzz and the Facedrive.

The BMS does indeed look fantastic, but I currently don't have the funds to get it. I wanna keep each pedal at about £60 each, and the BMS is about £150 from what I've seen. I'll look up the bassfuzz.

if you buy cheaper effects, theyre likely to end up getting replaced. weather they die or you just want to upgrade, IMO its a lot more worth your while to just buy more expencive stuff (unless of course the cheaper model is exactly what you want, like a DOD fx25)

Well I want to buy cheaper effects until the band starts to gain speed, then trade in and replace them. I have been looking at the bass microsynth, and it is expensive but it has got the range of effects I would like. All the other pedals I'm after I won't spend too much on just yet, but in future I will.
