If you were building a new board...

...and it had to be compatible with both guitar and bass, what would you put on it?

Right now my bass rig is TU2->Boss Wah->cheapo Phaser->cheapo Compressor->Subdecay Noisebox->Bassballs->Boss CE5->RC20->Morley Volume, and most of it is powered by a DC Brick.

I pretty much have my heart set on keeping the Noisebox, Chorus, Looper, Volume, and maybe the Tuner. I was thinking about adding a delay, another fuzz, some dirt, a reverb, and maybe even a LPF.

What I'm thinking about now is a DL4, a Devi Ever Ruiner, and a Holy Grail. The Iron Ether pedals also seem really cool, but I'm not sure how well the LPF and Bass reverb would work with guitar.

Have any suggestions? Am I keeping the wrong stuff? What else would you add? Am I overlooking something that would work great?

I would build 2 boards in this case, though several pedals I'd want could go either way, ultimately, it's 2 different things. In my case, I use a multi=fx pedal for guitar, and a dedicated small board for bass, and another dedicated medium sized board for synth, and another that can be patched in to any of the others.

I would build two boards, but I can't really justify it as I'm not gigging and I don't have a large amount of cash to blow at the moment. Since the two boards would be pretty similar anyway, there would be multiple duplicates on each, so I was hoping to just kill two birds with one stone, even if it means compromising a little bit.

Focus on bass, (if that's your main goal), and get a cheap multi for guitar. You'll be happier.

My main instrument is an extended range guitar which covers both guitar and bass range. Most of my effects are usable with both.

My suggestion would be to concentrate on effects which *do* work with both. Read boards which focus on one or the other, and notice where preferences intersect. Try gear out in your local stores with both.

I generally look for gear which has a wide variety of adjustability. For example, the Tubescreamer variant I play is the MI Audio Blue Boy Deluxe, and its six knobs let me adjust it to get different feels out of it.

Don't overlook gear which is supposedly meant for one or the other. My favorite synth pedal with an oscillator is my Boss SYB-5. It won't track notes above the guitar's C5, but covers the rest of my instrument's range brilliantly.

For what it's worth, my favorite multis at this point are the GT-10, the POD X3 and the ME-50B. The ME-50B is the real surprise, as it covers ground the guitar version doesn't, containing Sound Hold and a few synth voices. I like to use different dirt settings coupled with the sweepable resonant filter, sometimes swept and sometimes parked (to emulate the peaks of certain instruments I'm emulating). It's turned into one of my favorite synth pedals.

Whatever you ultimately choose to do, good luck!
