i'm newbie and got two question

Sign in to disble this ad
hello.
my name is sir. edjong. I'm from indonesia. And i'm an amateur bassist, it means i'm stupid at these thing. I play blues, rock, and jazz with my hofner icon. My hero is John Paul Jones, Colin Greenwood, and Paul McCartney.
I'm happy that there is a forum like this so a stupido like i am can ask help from the pros. Here's my question:
1. My band wants to perform "National Anthem" by radiohead, in that song Colin played a bloody cool distorted bass riff, can you people suggest a pedal for to be able play my bass like that?(of course not the lovetone big cheese, that's way too rare). My current candidate is ehx's bass blogger, can it do that?
2. I want to buy my first amp, and since i am noise-hater person, i've decided to buy a head. Can you people suggest a great bass head under $400?
Terima kasih(indonesian for "thanks"). I'm very happy with any response. Bass rulezzz!!!!

1. several pedals can give you good bass distortion. look around on here and you can find clips and discussions about pretty much ever bass distortion made.

2. under $400 i'd go used. a lot of good brands for not a lot of money and as long as it's not abused, you can get a better amp for less money. hard to recommend specific brands, though. not sure what you're looking for.

e'm, i'm looking for a head that fit's my style (rock blues jazz), and maybe it got its own effect like delay, reverb, chorus, bla bla bla. The most important thing is the amp head must be very clean and deep, and loud(if connected to a cabinet, of course), the listener must be able to listen to it even if they didn't want to.

You can always buy Big Cheese clone - Chunky Cheese for example: http://www.olcircuits.com/olc_chunkycheese.html

Many builders can build you BC clone with additional dry/wet blend if you want to keep your bottom end.

First off be a little more positive! I found that I when I was positive about my playing and where I was skill wise I was a much better and happier player =D.. Secondly Welcome to TB.

Since you went straight for the Love-tone I would suggest that you go for the chunky cheese as already suggested as start. When it comes to distortion and fuzz there is really no one right answer.

And I would do some research on our AMP forum. But for an extra 50.00 USD I have seen Mark Bass LMII and LMIII heads go for that price range, on our classified forums which are universally fantastic.

+10000! Plus, if you have any questions at all, don't be afraid to bring them up here like you have. Most people around here are really good about helping you out. I still have questions I ask my good friend all the time and he is glad to talk bass with me. Good luck and follow that advice MaxMaps mentioned.

+1 to the above, AND, you're not likely to find an amp with built-in effects, and if you do, they're not likely to be very good. Keep your chin up, and have fun.

+1. built in effects in amps suck. line 6 does it better than anyone but they still miss the boat for me. get an amp that has a couple really great sounds instead of an amp that has several meh sounds.

Edjong - keep your chin up man, and have fun playing bass. Everyone here has been where you are now, but these forums are great ressources for learning everything that's worth knowing about bass playing and gear. Just stick to it and learn where ever you can.

As stated above, try searching the forums for overdrive/distortion threads. Most of them have links or clips that you can dive into and learn more about the world of effects.

Regarding your amp question, try asking it in the Amp sub-forum. And be sure to check out your local used market. You will get a lot more amp for your hard earned money by buying used gear, and if it's not what you want in the long run, you can always sell it again at a minimal loss.

Have fun dude!
