Why an EQ though? I guess if you're looking to change frequency response every now and again (or have ear-splitting feedback at a touch ), but I always find them less useful than expected. |

Suuuure, that's that you're saying now. We both know within two months of buying those pedals your eyes will be bulging out of your head as you awake like a zombie from your slumber moaning about how you must have more effects. Meanwhile your wallet is
I offer this piece of knowledge:
Effects are like heroine: Dangerously seductive and near impossible to quit.
Follow the advice above and STAY AWAY! |

Keeley is very transparent, can barely tell it's there. Course I have good control anyways, having never had one before. Blowtorch doesn't alter the low fundamental, so I think it's great.

As it is I use a multi right now. |

A compressor is great (I use a rack mount) but when it is working properly you hardly notice that it is there. So if you want an in your face effect then maybe not a compressor to start with.
IMO most boards I have seen all have a wah, manual or auto and a fuzz or distortion pedal. After that it is taste and sounds i.e. filter, boosts, eqs, chorus etc etc.
Happy hunting and here's hoping you have your pennies saved cause once you start you can't stop.

can you guys give me suggestions? | HEHE, many funny answers in this thread, one pedal to bring them all... as in, after your first pedal the addiction starts and all of a sudden you buy or build a pedal board and then a bigger one and then...
Compressor is a great idea, aphex punch factory, EHX soul preacher are two great ones and you might be interested in checkin out some exciters as well, BBE as some mentioned as well as the aphex bass exciter.
Have fun, and beware.. hehe

can you guys give me suggestions? | A compressor usually does not drastically change your tone, its more of a volume control, unless to set it to extreme levels.
Your preamp should already have basic EQ settings on it. EQ pedals are more to put in between effects if one effect lowers your bass, can increase it back to normal levels.
You maybe thinking more along the lines of a Sansamp BDDI, it emulates a tube amp & improves the sound a bit. Or a MXR M-80 does something simular like a sansamp.
Some use an aphex bass exciter to improve sound along or BBE sonic maximizer.
Try some out first so you have some idea.... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
