In between multiple glasses of rum I've managed to build myself a brand spankin new reverb pedal, as well as replace the faulty electronics in one of my basses. All of this with the soldering iron I got in the mail today.
Just thought I'd share.

It's a BYOC Reverb II model, and I just replaced the electronics in my Carvin Icon 6 String (courtesy of the wonderful warranty). I've had a little bit of soldering experience, but almost none with circuit boards which makes this really cool for me... gonna use both of em at my gig tomorrow night!

I have built a few simple circuits from schematics and it is cool and exciting to see your creation of parts come alive for the first time . Almost like you have created a living thing ! Its a cool feeling . I have built a number of car engines in my days including a couple of racing engines and it is the same kind of feeling seeing them come alive for the first time .
Here is a discussion on soldering that you might find interesting : Help. Does proper soldering make a difference ?
There's a standing joke in the electronic hobbyist world that first you build the circuit , then you figure out why it doesn't work . LOL
Yours worked right off the bat , you have every right to feel proud . Congratulations on your success !

It sounds pretty cool - a little bit digital (not as natural as the verb tank on a guitar amp, but that's to be expected) and noisy when I turn the reverb all the way up, but when I do that as well as turn the dwell all the way up it gets stuck in this really cool 'infinite delay' esque feedback loop. I've not see a verb pedal do that before, so I may have wired something oddly but it honestly sounds kinda cool (and only happens when both knobs are cranked all the way). I'll see if I can record a quick demo with it later

A demo would be cool - perhaps you've accidentally invented a great new effect. It's happened a lot of times before with effects pedals - someone just lucking out throwing their own design together. |
