Anyone else have a problem with paying $100 on a friggin tuner??

Let me know what you have, and if you know one that should be avoided!

korg's CA-30 chromatic tuner is rather no frills and works perfectly and is about $15

ive heard good things about boss stompbox tuners but those are still like $60

I have an Ibanez LU10 which I think is great! It costs $20. Really good display.

You can also get it in pedal format.

I've been using the intellitouch pt2 for some time now on my double bass. Clips onto the bridge, no need to worry about surrounding noise or plugging in a lead. So simple.

The intellitouch is great. I use it all the time. It's a little slow to track though. If you're dropping to D a lot, or tuning a low B, it can slow you down. I still use it for "around town" gigs when I don't want to heft my pedal tuner (attached to my pedal board).

IMHO the superlative tuning product is the Korg DT-10. But this won't be in your budget.

Alternatively - learn to use your ears. They're free.

Craigslist. I picked up nice Fender rack tuner for 20 bucks on there. Same price as my little cheapy Korg tuner new.

I have the Boss TU-2 and the Korg CA-30. I use each in different situations, but I think I like the Korg better.

I like the Fender PT100 tuner, the blue LED strings are very easy to see in daylight and at night, and I have always found the accuracy to be spot-on. I think I got it for $30

Boss TU-2 - go directly to Ebay and get one. They are most accurate when used in streaming mode.

+1. I love mine. Only thing I wish it had was a backlight.

The PT100 is a very good tuner but I tend to use a Korg DT10 during live use as the PT doesn't stand up to heavy duty (ab)use.

For home use I use an el cheapo (its all plastic on the outside and doesn't have a backlight) essentune thing. Its about the the size of a cassette tape, only a little bigger, and is one of the most accurate tuners I've ever had. I found it lying around before a gig. I thought it was from the band from the night before, but was informed that a band hadn't played their in about a month. Therefore its mine!

sabine tuner...

I have a little Sabine portable tuner, not racked, that I bought a few years ago, about $45. Its small, square shaped, sits flat and the view window is angled. I think Ive had the same battery in it for like 2 years. Then again, I cut it on, tune my basses before first set and they rarely go out of tune thru the nite,so I just turn it off and maybe check again around 3rd set. The notes (letters) are very small but I just watch the LED's and it goes to each string automatically as you tune, no need to move a switch or dial for each string. One tip here, I place it on top of my amp head so I put some velcro on bottom of the tuner and on a spot on top of my amp so it does not move around, then I just run a short patch cord to my tuner out. Stays in place and I just rip it up to pack after each gig, just a small 1"-2" piece of velcro does the trick.

the fender pedal tuner i have found to be a bit flimsy... had one break on me after about 6 months.. i'm not at all rough with it either. although it is accurate and the blue leds are cool..
