Help, please, gentlemen:
Q1 - Can you guys share what iOS devices and iOS versions you are using? Obviously, those of you using AudioBus and/or other multiple apps have better processing power than the 3GS (iOS6) I'm currently using, for example. I'm mostly interested in iOS versions, I think...more questions to follow regarding this, as I try to figure something out. EDIT: my query has to do with cellular noise I now get AFTER updating to iOS 6; my 3GS was quiet as a mouse before updating from iOS 5 to iOS 6.
Q2 - For those using 30 pin devices: what kind/brand are you using and 'where' does it plug in? I'm having a hard to imagining where everything plugs in; I'm using an AmpKit Link, for example. So that's my "context," if you will. There is much talk of better sound through the 30pin, which makes sense, but I can't imagine how this looks in the chain of things: how the sound goes from 1/4" bass signal to whatever 30pin device (or does this go IN through headphone and OUT through the 30pin? which then means there are two devices in use?) and how the OUT from the 30pin gets converted to 1/4" or 3.5mm audio for PC, amp, etc... I see pictures above but can't make out the details.
Q3 - Anyone using an iPad and Camera Connection Kit; how is this working for you?
Q4 - Some of you can really charge and use the headphone as your IN/OUT at the same time (with an iRig or AmpKit type device)? I 'can' do this, but the noise is incredible and makes it unusable (with any amp sim app). Could this could be a 3GS thing, a ground issue with [noisy] apartment wiring?

You just don't have the processing power.
If you're just running Amplitube, it's pretty horrid on the 3GS.
Try the free version of Jamup and see if that sounds better to you. Then you can add amps and pedals as you desire. |

What iOS version is your 4S running?
As I suggested in other posts, I'm currently using a 3GS with JamUP (w/bass expansion), through an AmpKit Link and for the most part, it sounds pretty darn good (I thought AK and AT were fine with appropriate settings). But my Wife has an iPad2 which I can [probably] sometimes use, hence my other questions.

It definitely sound better on the iPad. I'll have to let someone else answer your other questions because I'm still using the Irig. |

Could this could be a 3GS thing, a ground issue with [noisy] apartment wiring? | 1 - iPhone 4 & iPad 2 / ios 6.0.1 this is just the wifi version no cell. But I always put the thing in airplane mode when I play. No noise issues
2/3 - art USB dual pre
My setup pic http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attach...8&d=1355689327
Input side http://static.bhphoto.com/images/ima...345/615405.jpg
Output side http://static.bhphoto.com/images/mul.../IMG_88370.jpg
Goes in the dual pre from bass then to USB cable to the CCK USB adapter to 30 pin it works fantastic back through from iPad to the USB and back to the ART all ad/da conversion in the art and monitored out to DI or headphone from the art. Noise free and zero output or input through the headphone jack of the iPad you can with this setup use the ipads headphone jack to listen if you want.
4 - if you are using the headphone in and out there will be noise of some kind. AT has a little hiss even with 30 pin. jamup none. your noise your getting also may be and probably has a lot to do with apt. wiring and a lot of RF around. I cannot charge and use 30 pin at the same time. But with the art doing the input the ad/da conversion and the output. The battery power to the iPad during live sets or practices is very long and have never had to stop and recharge. Hours upon hours.

On my iPad mini it is iOS 6.01 and on my iPad 1 iOS 5.2.2 if I remember right.
2. I use Apogee Jam and the iTrack. The Jam is easy, when I use it with my iPad 1 I use the dedicated 30pin cable, no need for camera kit. When I use it with the iPad mini I use the Jam to USB cable (which is the one to use with a Mac) which I connect
to the lightning to USB cable. The bass connected to the Apogee Jam with the usual instrument cable.
With the iTrack I use the short cable which comes with the iTrack in order to connect the iTrack to my iPad 1. The bass is connected into the mic channel (XLR) with the Sansamp PBDDI in between (bypassed) as a DI box.
The when I use the Apogee Jam I have to use the headphone socket to get the sound into my headphones or the PA. The iTrack have its own DAC and headphone amp which is great. There is also a line out in order to connect to other stuff. So, the headphone socket on the iPad is not used.
The camera kit works fine, but it is a bit "lumpy"
As I've found out, an A4 processor or better is what I would recommend in order to use amp sim software. The A4 can even deal with Audiobus when one use the Prieto 2nd edition loop hole.
Edit: try to reboot your iPhone before running Jamup, and turn off cellular network, wifi and put on flight mode.
