Rip,
I was going to make a recording of the dual showman last night to post here and I got new strings so I was gonna make sure the intonation was right all the way up the fretboard and I could not get the b string to get in and there is no more room for adjustment all the other strings are in and the adjustment "nut" is all the way against the bridge. And it is still way sharp on the octave..... What should I do ? Is there anything I can do? I haven't had this trouble before on this bass or with these strings.

I haven't had this trouble before on this bass or with these strings. | I would post in the hardware & setup area. I'm not a five string player, not that it matters really. But I've never had any issues like that, that didn't require moving the bridge.
Check in the Hardware area, someone may be able to help without drilling.
What kind of bass is it? |

1) My iPad 2 is performing beautifully with JamUp. Is there any advantage at all by moving up to the iPad3?
2) Is the Virtual RedHead in JamUp better than a Real RedHead? I have never heard the real thing - but they don't seem to gather too much favor (at least on TB).
Thanks! |

Thanks! | 1) The advantages would be in the faster processor, so if you start using Audiobus, you'll be able to work with a higher track count. Plus, there's no way you'll get any pops or glitches while playing live with Jamup (not that it's a problem now.).
2) I've never played through a real Redhead, but through a PA, the Jamup Redhead sounds frickin' AMAZING. |

1) If there still a bit of travel left cut the spring on the B saddle. That should allow you to move the saddle a bit further away.
2) Make sure you press on the B string so it has the proper break angle over the saddle.
3) If you've used these strings before without problems, you may just have a bad set. Replace the B string or the whole set.
4) Move the bridge back a bit. I've done it and it takes less than an hour to do it.

It's definitely possible that you got a bad string, but it's also not uncommon to have problems with the saddle for the thickest string needing more travel.
+1 on the advice to bend the string to make sure you have a nice clean break angle over the saddle (simply press down on the strings just past the saddle). Also +1 that typically, it's not the saddle hitting the back of the bridge, it's just the spring bottoming out.
In rare cases, I've had to file a smidge off the back edge of a bridge saddle. However, you said it was a long way off.
If it's so bad you need to move the bridge, I would try another string first. No name-brand bass should need the bridge moved to accommodate normal string gauges.

So of course, I snagged it and have been playing with it. It's a REALLY cool keyboard synth. I use keys all the time in recordings so I'm familiar with a few different high end ones. This is right up there in terms of sounds.
I'll be spending a lot of time with this one. |

Thanks! | Get the iPad 4 if you're getting something new... Not even sure if the 3 is available? The iPad4 is the current version with a much faster processor than the mini or 3 had. The performance is almost double. Running JamUp isn't really intensive so unlikely you'll notice anything significant. If you are running audiobus though, like Rip said, you'll notice big time improvements over how much you can do at once. http://ipad.about.com/od/Tablet_Comp...-vs-iPad-4.htm
I've played through ( but not owned ) an SWR redhead and I would say the sound JamUp puts out is exactly what I would expect an SWR amp to sound like through an SWR 2x10. Better, I doubt that but possibly just as good. |

But like recent generations of Line 6's guitar gear, it's close enough to satisfy in a lot of practical situations... |

At that point, I would imagine the differences between the real thing and the sim would become more apparent. |

I'm seriously impressed with the way these models sound through a PA with a sub. Again, through headphones it's not something you'll really notice, but when you have the chance to crank them up through speakers they sound fantastic.
Whether they actually sound exactly like their real counterparts, I'm past caring. It sounds good enough for me. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
