At first I was just using the earphones that came from apple (the stock iPhone ones) for practice. And you can hear a huge difference live with a much better set of headphones and a good FOH.

My live signal chain looks like this:
Bass --> Irig (for now)-->DI (signal splits here)-->side A to DI--> PA
Side B (from DI) to Yamaha mixer for in ears, which also recieved feeds from the main PA mixer. I'm currently running four channels on the in ear board. Two for the main mix, my bass signal, and my vocals.
So from the mixer I can control the levels (in my ears) of my bass, my vocals and the main mix.
The main PA mixer gets my bass after Jamup. |

I have JamUp Pro XT and the paid versions of Amplitube, GK, Garage band, etc. Ended up using Pocket GK with Apogee Jam into iPhone 5, JamHub Tour and Shure SE425 buds.
I'm not a JamHub fan, and I've had limited success using a post-EQ feed from my GK MB800, or my Empress ParaEQ, to sweeten it up. The Pocket GK setup turned out to be my best-sounding solution yet! |

Surprised nobody's yet mentioned it. If you're doing recording, right now it's the best that's out. Worth looking into. |

Plus, with Audiobus just coming out, everyone is still learning that, and all the apps attached. Right now, Multitrack DAW is also a major contender.
Auria seems great but at $50 it's out of the range most are willing to spend for an app. It's also not available in the App Store yet, so getting it on your device still isn't easy for most. |

The SE425 are much better for music listening but I actually prefer the SE215 for bass playing as the bass is more dominant in these. |

I'll work it out and see which is cheaper.

Well, since my 1972 bassman does not have a DI, and i wasn't able to have my amp up there and mic it and I could not stand the bland, DI to FOH. So I used the iRig and AT for a year live.... it wasn't as good as I have it now, but I could use the iRig with a lot of tweaking to get the tone I was looking for in the mix from the aviom headphone monitors to send to DI just like a mic'ed cab.
Now I use the ART USB Dual Pre into the apple USB camera adapter to 30 pin and jamup's bass expansion to send by di so it then by the FOH soundboard get split out to stage monitor (for singers) and mains and subs and aviom system for the musicians own personal headphone mixes....and it sounds killer.

With GarageBand I'm able to dial in quite a few good bass sounds using the stomp boxes and amps, including a great Geddy Lee bass tone! |

Also, the amp models available in Jamup far surpass Garageband. You should give it a listen. |

Also offers waaaay more in functionality than any other recording app currently available. Considering the price of comparable recording software, imo $40 is practically a giveaway. |

Maybe it's iPad only. I'm running all my stuff on an iPhone 4S. |

I was sick of getting on stage and putting those huge cans on my head.
The church provided them and it has great response (Behringer HPS3000 Studio Headphones) they sound great but dorky lookin I was worried about the bass and clarity and I wasn't gonna put someone else's in ears in my ears to try them out (eeeeeeewwww). The reviews say they are great but I don't know those people and don't really trust them
