The red was my favorite from the first download. it was my first initial craving to get jamup in the first place. I was wanting "someone" to offer a redhead and I was not disappointed. Also was blown away by the whole bass expansion.

I was also wondering about the 123 because its still a two point switch. The value box in the upper left corner says 0.0 on the 1 side of the switch and 10.0 on the right side of the switch. There isn't a middle value for two hmmmmmmm
I never moved the switch before the update anyway the blueline was already dialed in so good when you select in I didn't change the setting except to give it a tad more gain and a bit more bass (just a tad) for my preset. The value of one two three should be frequency sets. shouldn't it be something like 400, 800, 1200?

Looks like we can count IK out for the count this year while they focus on Android. I wouldn't be expecting much new for iOS from them.

I was doing a little research into the Airturn pedals and I found this:

This is a side view of the ATFS-2 pedal, which is what the Airturn pedalboard consists of. Doesn't really leave me with a sense of security. I see all kinds of bad things happening with that, unless it was to be built into a sealed board. Just imagine the gunk that could make its way into the switch, heck even a gum wrapper could short it out.

I'm probably over thinking this, but at $100+ for either of these systems, I want to be sure that I'm buying something that'll at least outlast my Behringer pedals.

Bass in stereo in a live situation tends to lead to weird phasing issues. Lets face it, most FOH systems at a club level (and beyond) are run in mono, so adding a stereo bass is gonna get you quickly lost in the mix anyway. Save yourself the headache and aim towards a mono output, because that's all most soundguys are gonna be willing to give you, anyway.

That's now a bad thing unless you run a ton of stereo sweeping effects, and those are best left to the recordings. Unless you're wearing headphones, you won't be able to hear the stereo effect anyway.

But yeah, pull the right cable and you'll have your output.

Btw, what's the story with the 1-2-3 switch on the Blueline?

It still only switches between 1 & 2, or am I missing something. The Blueline seems to have improved sound wise, as well. So did the GK, in a big way. All the amps have improved in some way, but the Redhead and the GK are the most evident.
Not sure about this mids selector, should be 3 choices. I hope Calvin can say something about this.

question for Duke21

Duke,

Back in the Part 1 thread, you said that had used a platform of:

Bass -> Apogee Jam -> iPad Mini -> Jamup

I have tried to do exactly that, and it doesn't work. The Positive Grid website says:

"Why no sound with Apogee Jam? JamUp currently supports Apogee JAM with these models: iPad, iPad2, iPad3, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4."

I noticed you used the Jam USB cable with the USB->lightning Camera Kit . . . but you said later in the thread that the 30pin to lightning connector would work as well. That is what I purchased (30pin to Lightning).

Since you've made it work, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

-STS

I should also have mentioned that it all works perfectly on my iPhone 4s . . .

I havent read the entire thread(s) but, I have began to consider using an app live through my iPad for effects. I have roughly 3 songs in our setlist where I would like to use some effects (funky envelope filter, octave, and flanger). Since its only a few songs I didnt really want to buy pedals if I dont have to. Is anyone using an app for effects like this. I dont need or want amp simulators or even overdrive/distortion. The ones I have seen are more for amp simulation with one or two effects.

Again, sorry, this may have been discussed here in this thread, but I quickly perused it and didnt see an app strictly for these types of effects mentioned.

No sound?
The Apogee comes with 2 cables, the USB cable to connect to a Mac and the 30pin to connect to older iOS devices. I've used the USB cable with the lightening to camera kit. But the lightning to 30pin should work as well with the second Apogee cable.
Do you get sound in other apps? You can try the free GK app. Anyway, it should work!

Forget the octave it is mostly for guitar, doesn't track so well a bass guitar. No octave pedal on iOS works for bass. Not very well.
Personally I would not go through the hassle of using both a real amp with just effects on Jamup/ Amplitube or Ampkit.
If I go the real amp route I would use hardware stomp boxes, at least live. It's all or nothing for me.

I use 30pin to lightning with my iTrack on my iPad Mini with no problems.

Thanks for the fast response!

"No sound" actually means that Jamup does not recognize the Apogee Jam when the headphones are plugged in. It gets confused by the plug and tries to use the mic on the headset (if using the head set) or the internal mic of the iPad mini. The light on the Jam goes to Blue no matter what the gain is or how hard to play. When you unplug the headphones, the Jam goes to green and you can see signal in Jamup . . . frustrating.

While Apogee says they support the 30 pin to Lightning connector they also have this on their support site:

"Apogee JAM has been tested and is fully compatible with iOS 6 on these devices:

iPad 2
iPad (3rd generation)
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S"

So Apogee say the iPad mini isn't supported, and Jamup says it's not supported . . . I'm curious to see what you did that allowed it to function normally. I'm wondering if the Lightning to Camera kit is the magic here.

I will try another app like the GK amp later today and report my findings.

On a totally different note, I was surprised how good the Bassman (guitar amp) sounded with my Jazz bass. The Bassman emulation in Line 6 is dull and dead sounding. I'm going to get the bass expansion after I get my iPad mini issues fixed.

I use jamup live all the time into DI then FOH. I use to use AT until I discovered jamupXT.
Jamup and Amplitube both have the ability to bypass the amp sim part of the apps.
Like duke said the Octaver on both apps aren't stellar but are usable if tweaked right.
Both apps have good Flangers. But.... The envelope filter in jamup's bass expansion bundle (the mutron III) is excellent, much better than the envelope filter in AT. And also the jamup, overall, is a better sounding app and costs less than buying Amplitube.
the bass expansion pack in the free version of jamup costs 10 bucks compared to AT costing 20 (no bass pack) and you may find the other pedals and amp sims to be something you could also use in your virtual pedal chain. Also as separate in app purchases you can buy the three pedals your looking for for 3 bucks a piece. I haven't been disappointed by jamup yet. it is a great app. Download the free jamup xt and look into the store section.

I also tried the gk app it's good but even the gk in jamup's bass expansions sounded better to me than their (gk) own app.
Did you mean a real bassman amp or an amp sim bassman?

+1 to all of this. I'll be using Jamup as my bass rig this evening "live" in my bandroom/basement!!

The Mutron III in the bass expansion is cool, but if you're really into envelope filters, spring the $3 for the Q-Tron. When you put the BDDI in front of it, and crank the gain, it's the funkiest tone you could ask for.

I went the "free" route with Jamup, after having a rather frustrating experience with another app. I got the XT version, and threw all my money into in-app purchases.

The bass expansion is worth twice what they charge, and every pedal I've bought has also been top notch. Now, I'll admit to being a Jamup fanboy, but I'm not just blowing smoke. It really is THAT good.

At my last band practice, I used Jamup DI'd into the PA, and no one noticed that my amp wasn't on. They did question why I was being rude and texting since it was our first time playing together. They got a good laugh when I explained that my entire bass rig was coming from my iPhone 4S!!

Ok cool, thanks guys. I can get away without the octave, but I really would like to use an envelope filter. I was just looking for a fairly easy and cheaper solution than buying a (potentially) $100+ pedal for a song or two.
