Yeah 10 to 15 bucks is much better

I don't have the other envelope filter that rip is talking about but I trust his advice. The mu III comes in the bass expansion bundle. The one he is talking about is in the boutique expansion bundle. Or as a separate pedal purchase. Either way jamup rocks my face off.

"No sound" actually means that Jamup does not recognize the Apogee Jam when the headphones are plugged in. It gets confused by the plug and tries to use the mic on the headset (if using the head set) or the internal mic of the iPad mini. The light on the Jam goes to Blue no matter what the gain is or how hard to play. When you unplug the headphones, the Jam goes to green and you can see signal in Jamup . . . frustrating.

While Apogee says they support the 30 pin to Lightning connector they also have this on their support site:

"Apogee JAM has been tested and is fully compatible with iOS 6 on these devices:

iPad 2
iPad (3rd generation)
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S"

So Apogee say the iPad mini isn't supported, and Jamup says it's not supported . . . I'm curious to see what you did that allowed it to function normally. I'm wondering if the Lightning to Camera kit is the magic here.

I will try another app like the GK amp later today and report my findings.

On a totally different note, I was surprised how good the Bassman (guitar amp) sounded with my Jazz bass. The Bassman emulation in Line 6 is dull and dead sounding. I'm going to get the bass expansion after I get my iPad mini issues fixed.

Both Apogee and Positive Grid are just not updated regarding the info about the iPad mini. It works with both Apogee and iTrack with Jamup. The issue must be with your headphone jack.

Thanks everyone for your help with my low sound issue. It was fixed by going mono out to the amp. Now it is loud loud LOUD. The next decision is whether this will replace my Zoom B3 (which is also awesome).

I can double confirm that the ApogeeJamUpXT combo works with the iPad mini at least when using the Apple branded lightning --> 30 pin doc connector cable.

I have reproduced the no sound issue when I start up Jamup without anything plugged into the headphone jack. I make sure Jamup isn't already running in the background, plug everything in, and then start it.

We've all seen it before. My MIA 60th Anniversary P.
It's the one on the right. To the left is my Dillion 54 P knockoff. Also bought this year.

Bass -> Apogee Jam -> iPad Mini -> Jamup

I have tried to do exactly that, and it doesn't work. The Positive Grid website says:

"Why no sound with Apogee Jam? JamUp currently supports Apogee JAM with these models: iPad, iPad2, iPad3, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4."

I noticed you used the Jam USB cable with the USB->lightning Camera Kit . . . but you said later in the thread that the 30pin to lightning connector would work as well. That is what I purchased (30pin to Lightning).

Since you've made it work, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

I don't have an iPad Mini, but I've used the lightning adapter (the cabled version, not the one-piece dongle) successfully with the 30-pin cable on my Apogee Jam, my iPhone 5 and JamUp.

Nah, 2012, I'm just still living in last year. Lol. I've got a project up my sleeves for this year, though.

I'm building a Dusty Hill tribute of my own (to my specs, not Dusty's). It'll be a slab body single coil P, with a reverse tele headstock. It won't be relic'd though. I'm gonna do a metalflake paintjob on it, and the plan is to do a binding with fiber optics.

Guys, I'm actually considering putting flats on my P-bass. Quire shocking... as I'm a rounds type of guy, but I use mostly my Ric and my Geddy. My Squier CV60 P bass hang on the wall mostly. So, I thought about putting flats or semi flats on it in order to make it more different then my Ric and my Geddy so I will use it more.
So, what do you recommend? Flats or semi flats? And if flats, is the Chromes the obvious choice?

Here are 3 of the flats I'm looking at:
1) http://evenstadmusikk.no/index.php?m...oducts_id=9212
2) http://evenstadmusikk.no/index.php?m...oducts_id=8858
3) http://evenstadmusikk.no/index.php?m...ducts_id=14200

The Ernie Ball, are they the same as the Chromes? Seems like it to me. The Roto's... well, cool name on these strings, but will the tension on this be "too" high?

I would go with a light gauge of Chromes, based on personal experience.

While the Harris set may be alluring due to fan appeal, it's a real set of bridge cables to play on, and if you're new to flats it's gonna hurt. Same with any Rotos that I've tried.

I've had the same set of Chromes on my backup P since this time last year (2012!! Lol), and they sound great. My main P, the 60th, had Chromes for about 7 months until I swapped them for rounds just to experiment. I've got a fresh set of Chromes in waiting, as soon as the rounds go dead enough that I don't feel like it's a waste to change them.

I don't have experience with the Ernie Ball set. Whatever you do, start with a lighter gauge and set your action accordingly.

My favorite thing about Chromes is that I can get my action so low it's completely effortless to play. You just gotta remember to lighten your touch!!

Nice one guy. I love the chorus sound when you start playing chords.
