Of course, I played her two tracks. One with Irig (lol. The missing bass clip!!) and the one I did with the Blueline.
Her first question: You waited this long to buy the Jam, why??? |

There's only one way to know... | I thought you might like that
Go for it!!!!!! With the powered ampkit interface it might be awesome!!!!
Why not?

From this thread, sub'd, ordered the Apogee Jam, and picked up Loop HD, MT DAW, Audiobus, and Jamup Pro w/BT15. All set and just waiting for the Jam to arrive. Woot!
Great thread guys! Very good detail here - especially attentive to Rip Topaz. Nice job man. Thanks!

I'm quite sure Steve could come with better answer. | These days, the trend is one-chip solutions for just about everything. There's a good chance that whatever is in that little USB dongle, is the same as what's in all sorts of cheap sound cards, etc.
Since it seems to be sold without software or drivers, there's at least a chance that it's USB class compliant. Not having a hardware gain control, it might be tricky with high-output pickups.
Assuming that it works, it's not going to sound as good or be as flexible as an iTrack or a Jam, but it might sound decent. Like the old Stealthplug, maybe?
If nothing else, it might be a cheap and unobtrusive way to add an 1/8" audio input to the latest MacBook Pro's, now that Apple decided to ditch the input jack.
The biggest hitch that I see for IOS, is that you need a $40 CCK before you can even test it...

I haven't tried the Jam and probably won't a the Riffport sounds nice. If I need better sound quality there is my DAW setup downstairs...

My current setup is a combination of both. I can use the amp models in Jamup with either MTDAW (without going downstairs) or my main DAW. They work great either way, can't say the same if Irig is in the chain. |

I've given up on IK doing anything truly innovative for iOS. It just doesn't seem to be something they really care about. But outright stealing another companies design? Come on, that's just wrong!!
I'm sure someone from IK will be along to say that they've been working on this for 20 years before Apogee even came around, or to just deny that it's anything like the Jam.
But the pix don't lie. |

Instead of IK: Musicians First, which is just laughable, it should be IK: We Didn't Do It First But We'll Tell Everyone We Did.
I'd be willing to bet we see Brian soon to claim that this is somehow better than the Apogee because of some great nanotechnology that makes it sound just like the real thing.
Sorry, I'm losin' it over here!! |
