I originally wanted the io Dock, but went with the Apogee Jam instead. As cool as it is, it has its limits. I'll be sure to let everyone know how it works out!

In one of the Auria promo videos, they use a mid-fi multichannel Presonus AudioBox to track a band live off the floor, and then use the Jam to overdub critical guitar parts. Makes perfect sense to me... |

Also the Jamup update is so good, going to spend my whole night playing with 5 delays

I mean, think about it- we're talking about more modelling capabilities than a POD 2.0, and it's running on a cel 'phone... |

I've got a 3rd gen, so I snagged the alesis. Soon they'll be gone-zo! |

I've actually been successful running Sunrizer XS into Jamup into MTDAW without even a hiccup. That's pretty intensive. |

Anybody hear about anything else unveiled at NAMM? This is tempting me to pull the trigger on a 3rd gen iPad and Alesis iodock and be done with it. My only reservation is whether the 30 pin connector will continue to be viable or if everything from this point forward will migrate to the lightning connector. Opinions?
It seems like it could be an exercise in frustration trying to keep up with all the newest technology for this platform as fast as it's evolving - but I suppose that's also part of the fun, huh? |

What's keeping me from the idock is the fact that it doesn't fit the ipad 3 perfectly, and that other stuff in the amazon review. Paricuarly how they seem to be ignoring complaints. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Woodland Hills, California | | So far I really like the Alesis iodock. I'm making very simple use of it so far, but for me, it's worth the price just for:
- Volume control (!!!!)
- 1/4" headphone out w/ dedicated volume control
- Recharges the iPad.
- Good quality 1/4" balanced outs.
- MIDI I/O.
- Padded carrying case!
Still have to check out:
- Footswitch control
- MIDI control through MIDI footpedals
- video out
- Mic/line inputs, phantom power
I'm not using the inputs yet (I do all my recording at home in Logic). But for live performance it's been worth it. I know MIDI in works well, but I understand that sysex does not work and WILL NOT be implemented. I have not checked out MIDI through the usb port, just with a MIDI cable.
I have an iPad 2, and it fits nicely with the (included) sleeve. I don't know about the iPad 3.
I would recommend budgeting with the assumption that it will work with your current iPad and nothing after that. Also, although I haven't needed service, I wouldn't count on a lot of help from Alesis (from what I've read online).
If you buy it, I recommend this deal: http://www.zzounds.com/item--ALEIODOCK . That's $149 with a free soft carrying case and free shipping! |

I've just started experimenting with the I/O Dock and a 4th gen. iPad using the 30 pin to Lightning adapter. It does cause the iPad to stick out of the I/O Dock a bit (the width of the adapter) but it fits well in the Dock and is very well supported. Everything lines up and the Dock (with the included sleeve) is the right dimensions for my 4th gen. iPad. It works just fine and, other than looking a bit odd with the slight overhang, I don't see any reason that it won't be perfectly usable.

BTW, does anyone have opinions experience running Auria on iPad3 vs. iPad4? The only thing I cna find is in this recently released review that came out a couple of days ago. http://www.prosoundnetwork.com/artic...ios/ipad/15913
Great review, but I was hoping for more detail on Auria performance in 3 vs. 4. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
