Reviews indicate that Focusrite bungled that one. Problems with the interface cable, etc. Another good idea gone wrong, like the Tascam iU2?

I was recently given an iPad 2, and have been looking at my options.

Has anyone done a direct comparison of the sound quality from the iRiffPort and the Jam?

On paper, I like the idea that the iRiffPort has a headphone out at the bass end of the cable and a separate line out, but in the end, it mostly depends on how they sound...

to me for the price the art usb dual pre is the way to go with the camera usb adapter it's still less expensive (under 100 bucks for both) i know the art is only 48kHz compared to 96kHz. the art has 2 channels of preamps for mic and instrument combination plugs with a wet/dry mix knob for computer/or dry preamp output. phantom power. monitor and headphone outputs. the headphone out is adjustable. i've searched forever for a good i/o for IOS and this also is pc/mac compatible. the art is also built like a tank all metal construction. unlike the plastic boxes of the other brands.

Dont just go buy one because it has a "good" brand name stuck on it. check out all the specs and features. im not telling you the art is better. just don't hastily go and buy one without really doing the homework.
(but the art is awesome)

http://www.amazon.com/Art-ART-USB-Du...ref=pd_cp_MI_0

or right now for ten bucks more the one channel tube version.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...4KMS6FM8XF36ET

there is also a two channel tube version for about 150.00, but thats getting a little up there on price.

i dont have either
i saw your most recent post on the P.A.W.B. club
.......nice lesson in learning a new song.....
i use my ipad2 every service i wish we could use my amp mic'ed on stage but in my case the IPad and the art usb dual pre sounds fantastic through FOH (JBL mrx500 series system with 2 18" subs) and the avioms for me to hear through some really great headphones with my own mix . i have a choice of quite a few amps and tones with the user presets that i have made and saved for myself.

Pardon the stupid newbie questions, but...

I'm fascinated by the idea of being able to use my iPhone or an iPad to replace my pedalboard for performance. I'd love to be able to jack my bass into some kind of interface which is then jacked in turn into my amp - a direct pedalboard replacement. I really don't mess with my effects during a song, using presets would be just fine (actually an improvement.)

I've been messing around with an iRig Stomp for a few days, but I've come to the conclusion that devices that interface through the audio port aren't for me. Is there anything like the Stomp that allows use of the 30 pin to connect to the iPhone/iPad? I saw something on the AmpKit site about an upcoming LiNK HD that's getting close, but it doesn't seem to be available yet.

So - is there a stompbox I can use to connect to my iPhone that is running AmpliTube or AmpKit using the accessory connector?

The only complaints I saw about the itrack solo were that the link cable is so short, but there are links on the site for longer ones.

I'm not sure what the problem is with the Tascam, other than it isn't much different than the Irig.

I gotta find a 30-pin solution SOON. I'm trying to record a song using just Amplitube, and the bleed from other tracks is killing me!!

wow
i just looked up some reviews on the iTrack...... sellers love the thing. the people buying and using them are miffed. the most of what i have read is.....
the 30 pin connection that goes to the special input port on the back of the device is very thick and unmanuverable, (about 6 inches long)

"i can't use my ios device very well with a 6 inch cable? and one end is 30 pin that's good but the other end is a special port connection."

" A standard USB cable and short 6” Dock Connector to Device Link cable are included in the package, along with an AC to USB power adapter; it’s worth noting that this pack-in isn’t mentioned in the documentation, which suggests that an Apple USB Power Adapter should be used with the USB cable to power the device. A DIY power solution would have been a strange omission for a $200 accessory a critical aspect of its design is far better suited for use with a stationary computer than an iPad, and really would benefit from a little post-release tweaking"

.....so the usb cable it comes with is used to power the device from a wall power usb adapter only while using it with an ios device, and the special cable would actually go to the device?????????

i just use the usb cable that came with the ART. its long enough to go from the floor to my music stand. I plug into the ART, the usb cable sends the signal back and forth from the ipad and i run a 6" patch cable from the back of the ART to a DI box for the House.

The ART USB Dual Pre is what i use with the apple usb camera kit
It isn't a "stompbox" but built as tough as one, and about as small as one. its smaller than the DI box I'm running it out to.

there are other alternatives.
this is a 2 channel 48kHz device.
XLR and 1/4" TRS combination inputs.

Whats your favorite amps/cabs settings you like so far?

Rip (heads up)
if you are getting an iPad 3 then you need a lightning port not a 30 pin. the iTrack will have to have another adapter. maybe if you ARE getting an iTrack... maybe the extension cable with a with female 30 pin to lightning port on the other. (i dont even know Focusrite makes one of those) i did see the 30 pin extension cables on their site.

three quick posts one after another

This is getting so frustrating, and it really shouldn't be. It not even the most complicated interface out there, why can't IK just make a high end dedicated interface for Amplitube!! They have the best software out there, and then give us CRAP as hardware.
I haven't tried the Stomp yet, because it still uses the headphone jack.

i stopped buying ik hardware and just use the software. that is what they are good at.

i think i have figured out how they work. its all in the marketing. you come out with the best later so that me you and duke and everyone else buys the mediocre one first (the one you have to use or the software is useless). Then the mediocre version 2.0. Then a better one (ooooo ahhhhh more bells and whistles) then the best. so they have you buying multiple products before the one everyone really needs comes out. (are you steamed yet?)

I am so happy they went to a 30pin interface capability so everyone wouldn't be trapped into using only their hardware. it really opened the door for the users.

I've got to wonder how hard it would be to build a breakout box in a stompbox case - USB, power and a pair of 1/4" jacks. I was just reading that more recent iDevices may not support simultaneous I/O through the 30 pin, but I'm suspicious about this - don't the current desktop docks do it now?

The cheapest one will be the Apogee Jam. But it lacks headphone amp and DAC for sound out.

My iRiffPort gets delivered today. I've held off updating to the paid version of PocketGK until it arrives just in case there's a coupon code or something in the package, but I should know more later.

I had an email conversation with PocketGK's developer - I sent a message yesterday asking if there were any plans to add effects to the app and he responded immediately, on a Sunday no less. There is a chance this will happen - if you want effects in PocketGK, start emailing them with your comments.

current desktops do. but its also 2.0 usb powered hubs. the ios devices do not offer any power out the 30 pin port. I have read that some powered multi port usb hubs do work but because they are self powered hubs. but still only one device at a time through the 30 pin. if its not a powered device the ipad/iphone will throw up an alert on screen that reads, "the accessory is not compatible with this device".... or something like that.

once again....
My ART is a self powered device and uses usb 1.1 tech. so its not trying to be powered by usb its just a data send i/o and, multiple inputs, 1/8" headphone out, 1/4" monitor out, and works with both ios and pc/mac. i searched for ever before i got it

and less expensive that the others ......

is it because it is an ART product that no one wants to get one of these?..... its not a Behringer.
is it because its 48kHz?

i dont care if the input device has 96kHz in. if theres no output and you still have to use the ios headphone out...pardon me but that sucks.

I'm looking at the ART as well, just waiting for someone to post a good review. Unfortunately, this technology is still new enough that detailed reviews just don't exist for most of this stuff.

I'm down to either the ART or the Jam.

Does the ART give you any problems being that the inputs are left and right channels? Will I be able to run my bass into my iPhone with it and have bass in both channels with Amplitube? Looking at it, it doesn't seem to have a mono/stereo switch. That's my only concern, other than that it looks like the winner.

I bought it as a practice tool, though - I can't see using it for performance, it's only 6' long.

Unless...

What if you could terminate it in a stompbox enclosure with 1/4" I/O jacks? Then the iRiffPort would serve as the lead between the iDevice and the pedal chain. I'll have to give this some thought!

I've thought about doing that, taking the guts of the Irig and putting it in an enclosure. It wouldn't be that difficult, but the 30-pin connector is out of the question for the Irig. Not so for the iriffport.
