sucks (yes have one)... Amplug was a better use of cash
I do have the Amplug, and if you like it great for you. While it ids nice for bedroom practice I'll not dare use it with the band.... Sorry, but Amplitube iOS with iPad/ iPhone 4S etc rocks.
They've really got me wondering now about this interface. That comment from IK about the 30-pin just makes me wonder if I should bother waiting for one from IK.
I'm not in a band at the moment, so I have the option of waiting, but if its gonna be mod-summer before we see anything, I'll just get the Apogee.

What sucks ...... You have one what.... Please clarify your bashing when you post here. I really have no idea what you are talking about. If you are talking about the Irig I don't terribly disagree..... But the Irig is ok. It just takes a lot of tweaking to get the hiss down to a usable level.

Wow, that said a ton without any recommendation. No offense, cuz I totally agree, but what device would you suggest then?
I'm really liking the new Blue Mikey digital, at least on paper, but I can't make any recommendations, having trouble finding review samples locally.
I'm looking at:
1/4" input only:
- iRiffport, $60, has amp and headphone output, non-locking 30-pin connector, haven't found any really convincing sound clips or reviews that focus on audio quality, IOS only, no USB charge-through
- Blue Mikey Digital, $100, no amp or headphone out, uses IOS headphone jack, small, switchable ALC, non-locking 30-pin connector, no proprietary cables, nice stereo condenser mic included, 1/8" in for guitar sounds good on Sweetwater demo, IOS only, has USB charge-through
- Jam, $100, no amp or headphone out, uses IOS headphone jack, small, fiddly level control, weird proprietary cable, solid connectors, good sound, Mac/Win as well, no USB charge-through
XLR and 1/4" inputs:
- Alesis iO Dock, MIDI, lots of I/O, USB charging, probably what I should be getting, put off by price, weight, form factor, reports of reliability issues, won't sit nicely on a mic or music stand.
- iTrack Solo, $200, only 1 XLR in, no MIDI, poor cable/connector design, good sound, Mac/Win as well
- RME UCX, $1,500, does it all, stellar sound and clocking, expandable via ADAT and MADI buses, Mac/Win as well
Others I'd consider if they launch before I make a purchase decision:
- iConnectMuse
- Ampkit HD
- improved version of the Focusrite
- return of the Tascam iU2?
Will probably end up with one quickie interface for headphone practice (Blue Mikey Digital, Jam?), and another for field/live recording.
I have an iPad 2 with camera kit, just got an iPhone 5. Trying to wade through all the interface options...thinking i want something that uses the lightning port.

Good luck with that. AFAIK there's nothing (yet) that uses the lightening port.
Sorry about this but I have to paste this in here also......
Just a rant I was reading another thread on someone bashin AT again.........
Something I have noticed about hiss and noise in Amplitube....
that even a very clean almost zero hiss, dry signal after going through pedals and amp/cab sim will have a bit of hiss just like a mic'ed amp would.....
You definitely want to "start" with as little noise as possible.
So.....the 30pin is obviously the way to go.......so many people say its "ALL" the interface like the irig.... granted the irig "does in fact" interject noise and hiss to the signal from the electronics in the guts of the irig and crosstalk from the headphone/mic jack.....but......good luck micing an amp and having zero hiss.
Actually not only will you have hiss but also room ambience and fan hums like ac units and wall bounce back and micro phonics from someone taping there foot on the floor. Which most of all the noise is delt with low pass filters and high pass filters and the such in studio situations.
But,....when micing an amp you cannot get around noise and hiss.
It's the nature of a high gain amp. Any noise at all like less than 0.04 noise in an electronic component will start to be amplified from the first piece of gear.
And, Heaven forbid, let there be any noise from a cable run or your bass guitar's electronics..... that gets amplified too.
Toggling on and off the amp sim you will notice the hiss come and go usually more hiss with the amp sim on with a speaker cabinet sim.....ik really does a spot on simulation. When you turn the high knob up and down on the amp sim the hiss gets louder and more quiet and in a real gear situation the more pedals you add and the more gear you add to the chain it gets harder and harder to control noise levels because every step amplifies the previous piece of gear.
The problem with a lot of the hiss most people hear is that they are now listening carefully with headphones. Great headphones too that let you hear everything and i do mean everything.
Most guitar amps are riddled with hiss especially tube amps. But no one cares about hiss when standing in front of one so loud it's blowing your eardrums.........but we all care a whole lot when we are listening through headphones to their tone so meticulously.
Sorry......again ......just a rant. I feel better now..... I knew you guys would listen

That is very true, but should we really accept that as just the way it is and just live with the noise and hiss?
Nah, even with Irig I can get a relatively quiet signal. Now I don't use high gain effects or anything like that, and I'm not sure my signal would remain quiet if I used Irig in a bar full of neon signs and big screen TVs.
I'm hoping IK dazzles us and releases a 30-pin interface that kicks total ass, but I'm not holding my breath. Getting any info out of them is next to impossible, even to the point of them losing business.

Totally agree about the hiss existence also in real amps.
Anyway, with the 30pin interface I think Amplitube is a great tool for playing live or record stuff. Just as quite as my Sansamp (which still can have ground noise!).
Anyway, just to demonstrate little hiss on Amplitube, here is a short take with (typically me) lots of OD...
A B15R cranked (master dimmed and preamp gain on 75%) lots of high mids and quite much highs.. http://soundcloud.com/duke21/ric-me-up-apogee-jam-and-ipad

Thanks!
More clips? Will try some more tomorrow!
Actually it is quite easy to use the iPad Mini, it is smaller, and I thought it will be too small, but it feels not much that different then the full size iPad regarding the knobs tweaking.
I'm a Ducati fan. The Ducati is often referred as a "Duke". 21 is the number of my absolute favorite World Super Bike rider, Troy Bayliss which had the number 21!
Actually I've got "Duke21" engraved on my iPad Mini!!

Indeed, the IK folks are lazy with giving out info
