I just caught this thread this morning. I haven't had a chance to go back and read through the whole thread yet, though.

When I first got my iPad, I bought Amplitube/iRig and just never explored it until just recently. I've found renewed interest in the app as a silent practice tool both at home and when traveling, and I also want to explore it as a tool for my gospel band. The rhythm section is exploring ampless options to cut down on how ridiculously loud the band leader thinks the band needs to be "to bring a show," so I'm exploring whether Amplitube will be an option.

Scrolling back through the last few posts also prompted me to download the free version of Jamup (and also saw that sale we just missed! D'oh! lol), and a couple other threads have turned me on to the Apogee Jam as an upgrade.

I personally can't stand the envelope filter in AT (I'm an envelope junkie, played or owned 22 so far lol) and the tracking on the octaver is abysmal... Those are the two effects I use the most. Some of the options in Jamup look pretty promising, but I haven't had a chance to plug up yet. For those with both, how do the filter/octaver models in Jamup compare to AT? Thanks for any info!

Not sure about the Octaver in Jamup, but the tracking on the Mutron is fantastic! Even a low E doesn't make it wobble.

The envelop filter in AT is really only useful as an extra EQ of sorts, not an autowah.

Envelope filter on AT is a great EQ tool!

First of all.....Welcome.
and YES!!!!
Many of the iOS apps have potential for live use.
I use AT all the time when you go back in the thread you'll see that i play several times a week at my church in the "praise band" and go DI out of my interface through the iPad always. We aren't able to have amps on stage. (to cut out all stage volume, policy) no amp closet..AT is my solution. Just DI'ing doesnt cut it. An amp and speaker cab is the sound i want not a lifeless direct signal going to a microphone eq tone stack on a soundboard.

If IK and AT doesn't step up with a bass focused expansion quickly there may be a bass mutiny and mass exodus to Jamup.

It seems that both octave pedals offered in AT is "geared" towards the upper register for guitarists, because your right, the tracking is abysmal for bass the standard and the octa blue slash model. i used the octa blue in a posting of all slash gear (for fun) on soundcloud and it goes all over the place and it really adds a lot of distortion too. Check out all the sound postings on this thread and the Virtual Ampeg Portaflex club thread here on TB.

you should just run your envelope filter and octave pedals of choice from your bass and then into AT and forget about AT's envelope filter and octave pedal and then into AT as your AMP/CAB/Mic sim. into a DI box for FOH.

Thanks! I suspect I'll find a lot of good info in this thread.

Running a filter before is certainly an option, but my whole goal with running my iPad to the board would be to downsize and eliminate as much gear as possible... Show up with my gigbag and my iPad and that's it. Okay, maybe my own DI too, just in case...

I'll be exploring further in the next few weeks, the gospel band is going to try using a Jamhub (because one of the keyboardists already has it) straight to the board for rehearsals, so I'm going to try plugging my iPad straight into that at first and see what happens! I'll report results of course!

This should actually be an ideal situation for Amplitube. Can't wait to hear how it worked out!

Thank you! I took that picture of my first 5-string ever, a Warmoth Gecko I built about 14 years ago. Still have it, still rock it and it still sounds awesome! It also was some of the inspiration for my second tattoo, took me about 4 years to get the design perfect. (i'm a designer by day)

Well, I think I'm an Amplitube convert.

I just can't seem to get the same clarity out of JamUp, and when I try, my G string gets thin and clanky. This seems to happen across all the amp models. Not necessarily bad, just not my thing.

Contrary to a comment that was made earlier, the BDDI in JU is a stomp box, not an amp, so you can use it with the amp models...

Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't sure because I haven't bought any amps in Jamup, just the BDDI.

I think for playing at home, Jamup is pretty good, but for live use I'd lean more towards Amplitube just because I know the app so well.

I'm still tweaking all the apps, but PocketGK is no longer of any use to me. Nothing I do with it gets me even close to the tone I've gotten in AT and Jamup. The Ashdown in AmpKit also no longer cuts it. I fiddled with it for a bit tonight but still seems too boxy.

The BDDI is a stomp box placed in the same section as the tube comp. the BDDI can be placed before or after any amp
But as it is placed in the same section as the tube comp you can not combine it with that!

The B15R is still the king of tone, so Amplitube wins on that one. But now JU came veery close to AT and I've got e mail from Positive Grid that a multitrack recorder is coming!
For my part I've can get "my tone" with the B15R with the Møller and the envelope filter. I can't yet nail it in JU,but there so many nice tones now on JU so I'll use it as well.

I must admit that I'm rarely satisfied with the headphone amplifiers in any piece of equipment.

That said, my other disappointing revelation about the Jam/iPad combination, is that I'm not very impressed with the overall sound quality with no amps inserted, regardless of the app. The treble isn't as smooth as it should be, and the low end isn't right. My bass sounds much more solid, and less "twanky" in the upper register, when I listen to it via the DI out on my GK and Genz heads.

I'm going to see if I can borrow my buddy's Mackie BlackJack on the weekend (terrible history with software drivers, but good A/D and D/A). I'm thinking that it might be useful to hear what the iPad sounds like with ALL of the audio conversion handled outside the box...

...Er, I mean Pad.

Jamup, BDDI & OR30

My wife got operated today (nothing serious) so I had to travel to Tromsø which is even north to were I live. Since I had to be here in the hotel for two nights I brought my travel bass (my Squier CV 60 P bass), my Ultrasone HFi 580 headphones and the Apogee.
So here is a clip with the BDDi in front of the OR30 guitar amp.

Hope everythings goes well with your wife's surgery.

I like the sound of that. You play with a pick, right? I can hear the distinct "click" of what I think is a pick.

I'm curious: what do you set the BDDI blend to?

+1, Glad to hear it's nothing serious and I hope your wife is doing well also. Pass on best wishes from anonymous Talkbass friends for us.

Your recordings sound pretty good, I also checked out your Apogee track in your signature. You mentioned being away from home, so I assume you're recording on your iPad? Are you using the recorder in Amplitube? I've also (very briefly) messed around with the recorder in Garage Band.

I usually run it at 100% blend. In my BDI21 manual, there are some "suggested settings". I forget what style they call it, but one of them is very close to "my tone", so I copy that and tweak from there.

Everything went fine. We are eating pizza now and watching a movie on the TV. Will drive home tomorrow.
Yes I use a pick, my fingers are really slow....
